One Layout Two Ways

Okay, this is what happens when you try to combine too many challenges in a single project! I started with 2 sketches that I was torn between for the photos that I’d selected (it’s going to be a 2 page spread, and this is the first page of it). Then Nicolle came up with a great challenge on Sketches4All that required a black background and 2 different dry embossed papers. Okay…an image started to form in my mind, then Webster’s Pages offered a digi/hybrid challenge on InspireMe that requires the use of their digital brushes. At this point, I was still thinking that I could make this work.

I started with the PageMaps sketch since it was due first, and planned to add an embossed section on the left where you see the patterned paper in the sketch and at the bottom instead of the punched strip. I started fussy cutting some Webster’s Pages images and resized and printed the brushes I was planning to use. Then I remembered that it was supposed to have a black background for the S4All challenge. So then I added the G45 Core Impressions paper (which I love). Sanded the embossed areas to make them pop and placed the elements onto the paper.

Hmm…doesn’t seem right to have it say You Shine a Light, when it’s so dark? So, using a plate, I traced a circle onto the “wrong side” of a sheet of white washed core’dinations that has yellow as the core color. Scored the “sun rays” to emboss it, sanded every other wedge to expose the yellow, then applied shimmer mist to the yellow sections to enhance them. Now it looked more appropriate for the pencillines sketch instead. So I switched gears and created a layout using the Pencillines sketch that met the criteria for Nicolle’s challenge….but then it wasn’t mainly Webster’s Pages products!

This first one is based on the Pencillines sketch:

Here’s the sketch:

So, back to the drawing board. I took photos then took it apart and remade it using a white background that I masked and misted to create the same sunray affect and rearranged some of the elements according to the PageMaps sketch. Now the only non-WP item is the one white bg paper. I kept it with the white background since that’s what I’ll need in order to make the 2 pager I’d initially intended.

This is the layout based on the PageMaps sketch:

I’ve Been “Published” by Practical Scrappers!

Practical Scrappers has kindly published 2 of my layouts on their site, so I thought I would share the info and links. 😀 The first one is the one they featured more recently. It was my Let Them Eat Cake layout of Madison on her first birthday. I used all Webster’s Pages Lullaby Lane products, stickles, and chalk ink:

This one is featured on their Little Girl Projects post.

The second, Baby Kiwi, was actually published first, but I must have somehow missed their email that provided the publication banner. For this one, I used an older Bo Bunny line called Pet Shop and posted about it previously on my blog here if you’d like more info. This one was featured on their Little Boys Projects post:

Comments are always welcome and appreciated. 😀 Be sure to stop by on Monday, April 25th for details on a fabulous, scrappy giveaway! It’s my birthday and I love to share! 😀

Recent Layouts and a Card

Wow! Now that was a really busy weekend! The Birthday Bash on the Paper Secrets forum is now closed, but you can still enter the challenges until the end of the month. For each completed project, you get an entry into the monthly drawing for the April prize. 😀

Here are a few more projects I completed for the challenges. I combined some of them with challenges on other sites. This first one is for the “Remember When” challenge. The requirement was that your layout had to reference the number 2 in some way. Whether it’s twins, an age (even a number like 11 counts since it has two 1’s in it), 2 friends, 2 days, etc. I used a photo that only included 2 of my children and Matthew was 2 at the time this photo was taken. 😀 When I’m referring to just Madison and Matthew, I tend to call them “My M&M’s,” that’s where I got my title. I combined this challenge with one in a Sketches4All group. Kaori challenged us to create a layout using metal embellishments. Here’s what I came up with:

Materials:

Bo Bunny Gabrielle 12×12 cardstock papers
BB Gabrielle Trinkets
BB Gabrielle Brad
BB Gabrielle diecut stickers and alphas
The cover of the BB Gabrielle Noteworthy journaling pad
American Crafts cardstock
Distress Inks

Adhesives:

Helmar 450 Quick Dry Liquid
Glue Arts Glue Glider Pro Perma Tac

Another Paper Secrets challenge is the “Wonderful BD” (BD being birthday) Technique Challenge. For this one, you need to create a birthday themed layout with the following requirements: hand cut/fussy cut an element from patterned paper and use pop dots to add dimension to the cut element. Use at least 2 different alpha stickers and incorporate either glitter or stickles on your project somewhere. I combined this challenge with Ilene Tell’s on Back Porch Memories. For her challenge, you just need to use kraft cardstock as the base and the background. Here’s what I came up with:

Materials:

Kraft cardstock
Webster’s Pages Garden Gala 12×12 cardstock paper
WP Storytellers Diecut Alpha Stickers
Stickles

Adhesives:

Helmar Scrap Dots
Glue Arts Glue Glider Pro Perma Tac

Next I have a card to share that I created for the Shabby Chic challenge on Paper Secrets. For this challenge you could create a card or layout, but they have different requirements. The layout requires you to use a pre-1950’s vintage photo, which I did not have, so I went with the card. For the card, you just need soft colors, paint, stitching and ribbon. Here’s my take on the challenge:

Materials:

Graphic 45 Once Upon a Springtime paper pad
American Crafts cardstock
DMC embroidery floss
May Arts Ribbon
Distress Ink
Folk Art acryllic paint

Adhesives:

Helmar 450 liquid (to attach the ribbon)
Glue Arts Glue Glider Pro Perma Tac

The last project I have to share with you today is a simple tag. This one was for a sketch challenge on Sketches4All. The twist was that it had to be just black and white. The challenge is now closed, but to view the sketch, CLICK HERE. This is what I came up with:

Materials:

Echo Part Be Mine 12×12 Paper
American Crafts gingham ribbon
E. Line Prima flower

Adhesives:

Glue Arts Glue Glider Pro Perma Tac

Tools:
