Happy Birthday Wish – dt layout for Creative Embellishments

WOOHOO It’s birthday month over at Creative Embellishments. Not only is my birthday in April, but Nicolle and Sandi are also celebrating birthdays this month. 😀 Since Nic is turning the big 4-0 this year, she’s decided that for this month’s challenge, she’ll be giving away a $40 gc to the Creative Embellishments store to the winner! How awesome is that?

The challenge this month is use the inspiration image any way you’re inspired and select at least 4 items out of the list of 10 to use on your page. You may use any other embellishments you’d like, as long as you also incorporate at least 4 items from the list.

For my page, I was inspired by the birthday theme of the inspo image and the colors, candles, balloons, cake, stripes and dots. From the list, I was originally going to use most of the items, but had a change of plans, so instead I simplified and went with these 4 items: doodling, enamel dots, mist and paint, bling (rhinestones on the crown).

I was also inspired by Sketchabilities sketch #112, so I used the CE Rings for So Many things and View Master Photo Slides to replace the circular elements and flowers from the sketch. The wood pieces from the Birthday Fun wood veneer set were all altered using PITT artist markers. The word “wish” at the top of my page is actually cut from the Wishful Thinking title piece. The remaining 2 CE products I used for my page are the Happy Birthday title piece and the Wavy Music note border (which I left raw).

Mixed Media Birthday Tag – dt project for Creative Embellishments

Happy Thursday, everyone! I’m up on the Creative Embellishments blog with a quick, easy mixed media tag to share. I’ll be honest with you, I had totally intended to share a layout today and time sort of got away from me, which tends to happen when you’ve got 5 kids. lol So…I quickly got this tag together and it never ceases to amaze me how EASY CE products make it to embellish ANY type of project! No joke! Whether it’s a layout, canvas, altered piece, card or tag, once you have your theme in mind, CE products help you pull it all together with ease!

For my tag, I was loosely inspired by Nicolle’s birthday layout of her mother. I just loved how she used the distressed music note bg w/the music note border piece and the Happy Birthday title. So for my tag, I kept that feel to it, but used completely different products! 😀 Here’s how it turned out by using the Mesmerizing Music Notes stamp and Birthday Fun wood veneers:

Happy Birthday tag

I created the background by misting with Art Anthology mists, then used stazon ink to stamp the Mesmerizing Music notes onto it. I then inked the edges of the tag and flicked the whole bg w/some black paint (diluted so I wouldn’t get big globs). I altered the wood veneers using a mixture of the mist used on the bg (sprayed onto a palette and brushed on like paint or ink), silks glaze and Art Anthology Velvet paint, but I did leave the music notes bare. Layered under my flower cluster is a bit of painted mesh and some cheese cloth for added texture and dimension. Hope you like it! 😀

Happy Beauty – Layout for Paper Secrets

I actually started out creating this layout for the Little Yellow Bicycle sketch challenge, but then decided it was better suited for the SYAO sketch #3 at Paper Secrets instead, so to make it work for me, I flipped the sketch. The items from the list that I used for this layout are 3+ flowers, 3+ buttons, 3+ photo corners and twine. The technique I selected was stitching (I hand stitched using the twine). Here’s what I came up with:

LYB Clothesline flowers
LYB Twig paper lace
LYB Clothesline chipboard
LYB Clothesline diecut flourish
LYB Delightful photo corners
Twine from The Twinery

Riding with Barney Layout and a Birthday Card for Paper Secrets

The challenges at Paper Secrets are so much fun that I like to play along when I can too. Aside from my dt work for the monthly challenges, there are 2 progressive weekly challenges with which I now play along. One is SYAO2 (short for scrap your ass off…round 2) and the other is CYAO. Sign ups are closed for SYAO, but there’s still a little bit of time for progressive card challenge. If you’re not familiar with what a progressive challenge is, it’s one where everyone signs up to start at the same time and there’s a deadline for the first challenge, anyone who does not complete the challenge by the deadline or does not meet the requirements for the challenge, is disqualified and everyone else moves on to the next round. This continues until there is only 1 participant still scrapping. 😀 Since the first SYAO is still going strong (I think there are still 7 members in it to win it) and they’re on week #40, Kristi was nice enough to start a new round last week for all of us who have been waiting for a chance to play. 😀 For each week’s sketch there is a list of materials, of which participants need to select 4 out of the 8 items to use on their layout and also a list of techniques and we must use 1 out of the 3 listed. For my take on week #2’s sketch for SYAO2, I used ribbon, 3+ flowers, 3+ brads, staples and a border punch. For the technique I selected stamping. Here’s my take on the challenge:

Materials:
Jillibean Soup Minestrone Soup pp
Jillibean Soup felt flowers
Jillibean Soup brads
Jillibean Soup alpha stickers
trim from my stash
kraft paper
Jenni Bowlin tickets
Smash date stamper
Fiskars punch
