Treasured – Canvas for Creative Embellishments/Heartfelt Creations cross promo

Creative Embellishments and Heartfelt Creations have teamed up once again, so our team got to play around with some wonderful HFC products! I chose the Italiana Riviera Paper Collection to work with. It features gorgeous imagery, lovely purple and green colors with some neutrals and a whole grape and wine theme. For my project, I started by coating my canvas board with black gesso. Once that dried, I sprayed some webbing primarily onto the top and down the center. It only takes about 5 mins to dry, but it’s best to wait an hour before handling. So while I waited for that to dry, I altered my CE Grapevine pieces using gesso, PITT markers, and a Lindy’s Stamp Gang color shot. I also fussy cut tags, a ticket, and some images from the HFC papers. Using the CE Crackled Brick Stencil and some opaque modeling paste, I added the brick details on the background. I then used 2 different Lindy’s magicals and the same color shot I used to alter my chippies to add color and details to the brick pattern once it dried. I then layered, a couple of doilies, flower pieces, and embellishments with the fussy cut papers, tags, and ticket. Last, I adhered the grapevine pieces I’d altered, and cut up one of the flourishes from set 26 that I’d altered using white acrylic paint, and tucked those bits into the cluster. Here’s how my project turned out:

I Think I Can – dt layout for Sketchabilities Sketch #101

Sketchabilities sketch #101 is now live! 😀 I’ve been absolutely LOVING Karan’s new sketches for the site. They’re great for mixed media pages, but can also be simplified or adapted for other styles as well.

For my example for the sketch, I decided to use 3 pics of Christian at the playground a couple years back. He was exploring a slide for the first time and was determined to climb up it instead of sliding down on it. To our utter amazement, he did succeed after a few attempts. 😀

To mimic the wood chips that cover the entire surface of the playground, I created my own background with a kraft paper foundation. I layered it with Krylon Webbing and their Make It Stone spray. I was also inspired by the Follow the Yellow Brick Road challenge at Flying Unicorn (recipe challenge). Here’s what I came up with:

I think I can

Materials:

Kraft cardstock
Krylon Webbing
Krylon Make It Stone!
Art Anthology Velvet dimensional paint
Graphic 45 papers and brads
Prima leaves
Washi tape
I am Roses flower
Distress Ink and paint
Maya Road chipboard alphas
Signo white pen
EK success punch
Martha Stewart punch
mini clothes pins and jute from my stash

Rise Above It – dt layout for SWAT drill #17

Creative Embellishments is sponsoring the SWAT Drill #17 which is to use something that’s been fussy cut on your project.  Fussy cutting (sometimes called detailed cutting or fancy cutting) is one of my all time favorite techniques! Anything goes; a layout, card, tag, altered project, art journal page, etc. as long as you incorporate this technique on your project. 😀

For my example, I combined this technique with the sketch and suggested journaling theme (the journey) at Once Upon a Sketch. Here’s what I came up with:

Rise Above It

Here’s a close up of the Creative Embellishments Steampunk Hot Air balloon I used on my page. I altered it by applying a coat of Tim Holtz distress paint, then going over it with distress stain in a slightly darker shade. I then highlighted select areas with Smooch Ink in “cape cod” which is a lovely shade of blue:

Happiness – Layout for Sketchabilities sketch #92

This is one of my favorite pictures of my youngest son. I love how joyful he is over absolutely nothing and I can’t help but smile every time I look at it. 😀 He’s 3 months old in this photo and I can’t believe that in a week, he’ll be 3 years old already!

For my take on Sketchabilities sketch #92, I used Webster’s Pages‘ New Beginnings. It’s the only other baby collection by WP since Lullaby Lane, so I was delighted when Brandin released it last season. It’s also perfect for Spring and Easter layouts! I combined the fabulous sketch #92, with the WP “Contain it” challenge, which is to use either their new baggies or their mini file folders and cards on your project. Here’s what I came up with:

Here’s the awesome sketch I used from Sketabilities:

Materials:

Webster’s Pages New Beginnings papers, stickers, trim and mini bag
Webster’s Pages Country Estate Paper
tag and ribbon from my stash

Adhesives:

Scotch ATG
Helmar Zapdots
