Hangin’ With Dad – Layout for Creative Scrappers Sketch#154

Now that I’ve moved onto Christian’s photos and Father’s Day is getting ever closer, I figured I’d scrap one for Larry. He prefers that flowers in general stay on layouts that feature Madison (though he does think that some of my handmade flowers are okay for boy pages) and he rarely likes doilies on “boy” pages. He does like when I use ink, paint and scruff things up a bit, so I kept things simple and went with a little paint, a little tearing, a touch of inking and a bit of distressing. For this layout, I went with the Creative Scrappers sketch#154 posted on May 1, 2011. I stuck very close to the sketch on this one and kept it clean the way Larry prefers. 😀 Here’s what I came up with:

Materials:

Bo Bunny Midnight Frost 12×12 cardstock papers
BB Timepiece 12×12 papers
American Craft white cardstock
BB Timepiece dimensional sticker
BB diecut alpha stickers
Folk Art white acrylic paint
Distress Ink

Adhesives:

Glue Arts Glue Glider Pro PermaTac

Can’t I get just 1 smile? Scrapbook layout

Christian is nearly a year old and I have hundreds of photos of my little guy. Unfortunately, the vast majority of them look just like these. For months, if he saw the camera, he would just stare at me like I had 2 heads, look really confused, or pissed! Now that he’s 11 months old and walking, he runs towards me and tries to grab the camera, so I get blurry action shots or images of his face up close and waaaay too personal. lol

For this layout, I combined 2 challenges. I used sketch#2 for the SYAO contest on Paper Secrets (due May 28th) and combined it with challenge#3 on Sketches4All, which requires 5+ patterned papers, 5+ alphas and exactly 5 buttons (due May 21st). Here’s what I came up with:

Materials:

Pink Paislee Butterfly Garden papers
American crafts cardstock
MME chipboard
Maya Road chipboard swirls (I took a piece apart to create a question mark)
PP Butterfly Garden Clear Pops stickers
PP Butterfly Garden Baubles buttons
white shirt buttons
Webster’s Pages Silhouette
WP Vintage Inspired Netting (original)
WP Storytellers Alphas
October Afternoon Mini Market stickers
Tattered Angels Shimmer mist
Distress Ink
Folk Art Acrylic paint
Stazon ink
Fiskars Baby Clear Stamps

Adhesives:

Helmar 450 Quick Dry
Helmar Zapdots
Glue Arts Glue Glider Pro PermaTac

True Colors – Layout for Stuck Sketches

A lot of factors came into play when making this layout. It started with finding this fab sketch on the Stuck Sketches site, then reading this post on the Cosmo Cricket blog that really spoke to me. It was only too relevant to what was going on in our lives the moment I read it and struck so incredibly close to home I was smiling yet in tears as I read it. Over the last week or so, I was thinking about scrapping a page for my son, Alex, who is also 9. At first, the song F***’ing Perfect by Pink kept coming to mind, but he seems quite a bit young for that one. Then, True Colors by Lauper came to mind last night and I knew I just had to scrap this layout. I went with the most recent photos of Alex that I have printed except for the 1st day of school photos. The baby is in his lap, but if you really know Alex, it’s only fitting that he would be. 😀 Since I was inspired by a post on CC’s blog, I went with a blend of their papers. Red and black are his favorite colors, but he also likes some greens and ocean blue. I added a twist to the sketch from Stuck Sketches, but attaching a sleeve of sorts to the back of the strips under the photos so I could slide journaling strips under each one listing some positive traits my son possesses. I used a different color of ink to write on each strip. Here’s what I came up with (this is with the journaling strips fully inserted):

Here’s a view w/the strips pulled out slightly:

Here’s a close-up of the strips:

Here’s the sketch I worked off of from the Stuck Sketches site:

CC Circa 1934 diecut stickers
CC Salt Air 6×6 paper pad
CC Social Club 6×6 paper pad

Webster’s Pages Storyteller Alphas

Tattered Angels Shimmer Mist

In case you’ve never heard the song that further inspired me for this layout, I’ve embedded it here. I picked this version from youtube rather than the official video, because it also includes the lyrics. TFL!

All Ours – Layout for Paper Secrets and Sketches4All

The first challenge for the SYAO event on Paper Secrets is now closed and participants are now moving onto the 2nd sketch. I’d already used it before for the “1st mohawk” layout of Alex last winter, so I rotated it 90 degrees to give me a fresh perspective. There’s also a list of 10 supply items and you need to select at least 5 of them to include on your layout. I chose dry embossing, misting, 3+ brads, 3+ buttons, ribbon and 3+ photo corners. I combined it with Challenge #4 (Bright Colors) on Sketches4All‘s Spring is in the Air event. Here’s what I came up with:

Materials:

October Afternoon Schoolhouse 12×12 cardstock paper
OA Schoolhouse alpha stickers
OA Mini Market stickers
OA Schoolhouse diecut stickers
Core’dinations G45 Core Impressions
American Crafts white cardstock
chain links from craft store
Maya Road chandelier beads
Making Memories brads
Bo Bunny buttons
Twine from The Twinery
Paper doily
Tattered Angels Shimmer Mist
blue photo corder brads

Adhesives:

Helmar Craft Glue
Helmar 450 Quick Dry
Glue Arts Glue Glider Pro Perma Tac
