Scrapbook Challenges Layouts – First Post on the New Blog

Sorry I’m a little late posting these. Since I was working on transfering content from my previous blog to this one, I wasn’t trying to add new posts in the interim, so my next few posts are just to catch up.

Scrapbook Challenges hosted a really fun Sizzling Summer event last month. It started with the Seasons of Change Hop On that I posted about previously then continued with 15 different sketches posted through the month (one new one each day M-F, then you had the last week to catch up on any sketches you missed). Though I didn’t do them all, I did have a lot of fun playing along and finished the month long event completing 8 of the 15 additional sketches. Below are 2 very different lo’s I created using very different styles. They were the first 2 I completed for the event.

This one really challenging for me since I don’t typically doodle on my layouts and Nat’s style is very unique. I was very inspired by her sketch and example (she was even nice enought to include a tutoral on how she created hers!) and loved working beyond my comfort zone. Thanks Nat! Here’s what I came up with:

If you have any questions about what materials were used, I’d be more than happy to let you know, just contact me with any questions. The bg paper is MME Stella & Rose, the tissue paper is 7 gypsies, the frame is Webster’s Pages, the drops I used for rain are by Robin’s Nest. All adhesives were by Helmar. Here’s the sketch it was based on:

I went very CAS (clean and simple) for the next one:

Again, since I’m posting something I created weeks ago, I’m not including a full materials list, but if you have any questions, I’m easy to contact. πŸ˜€ The papers and embellies are Teresa Collins Sports Edition II, I used an Epiphany punch and epoxy circle for the baseball embellie. All adhesives were by Helmar. The 450 Quick Dry made it a breeze to attach that bit of mesh trim on the photo, btw! πŸ˜€ Here’s the sketch my layout was based on:

Over the next couple of days, I’ll be posting 6 more layouts based on the Scrapbook Challenges sketches from last month. TFL!

Love layout – Pagemaps sketch contest entry

Earlier this month, Becky Fleck posted a wonderful sketch to the PageMaps blog for a contest to win a $20 gift certificate towards any scrapbooking kit from Freehand Scraps. After working several sketches over at Scrapbook Challenges, I finally got to create my layout based on this sketch last night. My poor neglected blog…since SC does not have you post your take on the sketches on your blog and link to it from their site, I have forgotten to post 6 layouts or so this month, so I’ll have to do that later this weekend!

Back to the Pagemaps layout…after months of frequenting the Cosmo Cricket blog, I finally discovered that they have challenges too! I never knew that! Rather than running them on their blog, however, they have chosen to host their challenges on Scrapbook.com. What a fun discovery for me! I was really excited when I read that on their blog and quickly headed over to the forum to see what the current challenge entails. This month’s challenge was quite simple really. Use at least 90% CC product and use either handmade or punched border! Pretty simple right? Lucky for me, the fab Pagemaps sketch easily facilitated the punched border I had in mind. Here’s what I came up with combining the two challenges:

Materials:

Cosmo Cricket Odds and Ends Papers
CC Odds and Ends cardstock stickers
CC Odds and Ends 6×6 paper pad
American Crafts blue cardstock
Ranger Liquid Pearls

Adhesives:

Helmar Adhesive Runner
Helmar Acid Free Glue
Helmar 450 Quick Dry
Helmar Zapdots

Tools:

Epiphany punch (heart and circle)
Making Memories circle punches
Fiskars border/edge punch

True Beauty Layout – Bo Bunny Layout Challenge

Bo Bunny has a wonderful sketch posted for their challenge this month, so I knew I just had to play along! I selected this photo of Madison that I’ve been meaning to get to. It’s so hard for me to get a good picture of her unless I catch her by surprise…even then, it’s hit or miss…when she poses for the camera, she tends to plaster an odd smile on her face (like so many children do!) or when trying not to have a fake smile, she won’t smile at all and therefore appears sullen when she’s not. My one and only daughter is also full of attitude, so it often shows in her photos. lol πŸ˜€ I happened to catch her just right in this pic, so I figured it would be perfect for the BB Sketch. The Gabrielle range was perfect w/the purple of her shirt, so here’s my take:

Materials:

Bo Bunny Gabrielle papers
BB Gabrielle chipboard stickers
BB Gabrielle layered chipboard
BB Gabrielle layered stickers
BB Gabrielle Cardstock sticker
BB Gabrielle Trinket
Distress Inks
Hero Arts crocheted trim
cream seam binding
Inkssentials white pen

Adhesives:

Helmar Adhesive Runner
Helmar Zap Dots
Helmar Acid Free Glue

Tools:

2 different Fiskars border/edge punches

Based on the BB challenge sketch:

TFL! Entries are due on 7/28/11 around 4pm eastern (see the countdown clock next to the inlink button for exact deadline). If you’d like to link up your take on the sketch, CLICK HERE.

Look Dada! Layout – Let’s Capture These Sketches #92

This week at Let’s Capture These Sketches, we had another gorgeous sketch by Ness to work with. I loved working with it and felt that a photo strip would be perfect for the layout. I chose a strip with Larry holding Christian. He was so fascinated by their image on the screen that he kept pointing to it and saying excitedly, “Look, Dada”! πŸ˜€

Here’s my take on the sketch:

Materials:

American Crafts cardstock
My Mind’s Eye Stella & Rose Hattie papers
MME Stella & Rose Hattie frame
MME Stella & Rose Hattie brads
MME Stella & Rose Hattie charm
Little Yellow Bicycle doilies
Maya Road chipboard alphas
Folk Art Acrylic Paint

Adhesives:

Helmar Adhesive Runner
Helmar Acid Free Glue
Helmar Zapdots
Helmar Liquid Scrapdots
