Rise Above It – dt layout for SWAT drill #17

Creative Embellishments is sponsoring the SWAT Drill #17 which is to use something that’s been fussy cut on your project.  Fussy cutting (sometimes called detailed cutting or fancy cutting) is one of my all time favorite techniques! Anything goes; a layout, card, tag, altered project, art journal page, etc. as long as you incorporate this technique on your project. 😀

For my example, I combined this technique with the sketch and suggested journaling theme (the journey) at Once Upon a Sketch. Here’s what I came up with:

Rise Above It

Here’s a close up of the Creative Embellishments Steampunk Hot Air balloon I used on my page. I altered it by applying a coat of Tim Holtz distress paint, then going over it with distress stain in a slightly darker shade. I then highlighted select areas with Smooch Ink in “cape cod” which is a lovely shade of blue:

Back Massage – dt layout for SWAT

This week’s drill #16 on SWAT is a wonderful sketch by Bev. There’s a twist that you need to incorporate twine somewhere in your design…any type of twine will do. I used jute for my page.

My youngest, who is now 3, loves to give back massages, but they tend to be rather brutal. lol I got a few pics of him giving his brother, Matthew, one and it kinda looks like he’s beating him up. I selected this particular photo because you can clearly see that Matthew is cracking up laughing and wasn’t injured by the experience. 😀 In the pic, Christian was 2 and Matthew was 6…therefore the time on the fabulous Creative Embellishments steampunk clock. I also combined the sketch with the Time Flies challenge on the Flying Unicorn Forum, where you need to include at least 2 timepieces on your page.

Here’s what I came up with for my example for the SWAT sketch and entry in the Flying Unicorn challenge:

Bev’s lovely sketch for the SWAT challenge:

Materials:

Creative Embellishments steampunk clock
Webster’s Pages Plum Seed papers, sparkler, clip, alphas and camera charm
Prima junkyard finding, TH timepiece, muse token and philosophy tag
jute
white signo pen
gesso

So Sweet – dt layout for Creative Embellishments

It’s Thursday, so I’m up on the Creative Embellishments blog today with a page I created using two of their fabulous flourishes, smart phone frame, hash tag title piece and one of the gorgeous bird cages. I stained and painted the flourishes, but for the birdcage, I also added some details to the birds using Pitt artist pens.

With permission from the site owner, I also combined my dt work for CE with the September challenge at the 123 Challenge Blog. Here’s what I came up with:

A close up of the birdcage:

Materials:

Creative Embellishments birdcage
CE Smart Phone
CE Flourish set 1
CE flourish set 9
CE Social Hash Tag title piece
Webster’s Pages Western Romance papers, bird resin, fabric ticket, journaling card, princess petal, pins and alpha stickers
7 gypsies hanger
ZVA flowers and other flowers from my stash
Tim Holtz stencils

TCW stencils
Distress paints and stains
Pitt artist pens
Distress ink
acrylic ink
Helmar acrylic sealer
