You Are My Sunshine – dt layout for Creative Embellishments

***Be sure to read the giveaway info at the end***

Hi, everyone! Another Thursday means I’m up on the Creative Embellishments blog with another project to share. πŸ˜€Β  This week, I created a layout using TONS of GORGEOUS Creative Embellishments laser cut chipboard pieces. If you didn’t already know, I LOVE their fabulous, high quality products and intricate, fun designs. To create this entire layout, I only used 1 sheet of pp and 2 doilies. Other than the stamping, everything else you see is made by Creative Embellishments! πŸ˜€

The pic I selected for my page is of my youngest son when he was a few months old. Any time I would leave the room, he was search for me even to the point of arching his back and doing back bends to look into the next room! It’s hard to tell in the photo, but that’s what he’s doing. A back bend just to see me. πŸ˜€ I was also inspired by the Monday mojo sketch over at the Flying Unicorn forum. Here’s what I came up with:

So Cute Layout – Creative Scrappers/Tres Chic Unique

For my third layout using the Tres Chic Unique Kit, I decided to scrap the photos of my father w/Alex that go with the first layout I created using this kit (titled Remember This). The photos from these 2 layouts were very difficult for me to scrap. Of all my children, Alex is the only one my parents have met. I have very few photos of them and these were taken when I was hopeful that they would love Alex the way grandparents should. They’re bittersweet and my heart aches to look at them, but I knew I need to preserve that memory. Those moments when the past did not matter and I thought a baby would bring about a new beginning. I haven’t seen my parents since Alex was 2 years old. When, once again, my mother stated that he was not their grandchild (Alex and all my bio children are half caucasian), and I worried that he would soon be able to understand the words she spoke, even if they were in Korean…I knew I could not put my children through the heartache that comes with a relationship with my parents. I could not allow them to be made to feel that they were not good enough and that nothing they ever accomplished would measure up to expectations. To me, this page is more like a glimpse of how things should have been, rather than the way there were.

All materials on this layout are included in the Tres Chic Unique kit except the button, white acrylic paint which I mixed with the Maya mist to splatter onto the background, and distress ink. I used the Creative Scrappers sketch #186 for inspiration and here’s what I came up with:

To create the doily “flowers” I cut the center out of the Maya Road doilies included in the kit and set it aside to use as a base. Then I cut a slit in the remaining ring and pleated it into a smaller circle and glued it onto the section I’d cut out using Helmar’s 450 Quick Dry. I also used the 450 Quick Dry to attach the crocheted flower and Liquid Scrap Dots to hold the button.

Here’s the wonderful CS sketch #186:

Look Dada! Layout – Let’s Capture These Sketches #92

This week at Let’s Capture These Sketches, we had another gorgeous sketch by Ness to work with. I loved working with it and felt that a photo strip would be perfect for the layout. I chose a strip with Larry holding Christian. He was so fascinated by their image on the screen that he kept pointing to it and saying excitedly, “Look, Dada”! πŸ˜€

Here’s my take on the sketch:

Materials:

American Crafts cardstock
My Mind’s Eye Stella & Rose Hattie papers
MME Stella & Rose Hattie frame
MME Stella & Rose Hattie brads
MME Stella & Rose Hattie charm
Little Yellow Bicycle doilies
Maya Road chipboard alphas
Folk Art Acrylic Paint

Adhesives:

Helmar Adhesive Runner
Helmar Acid Free Glue
Helmar Zapdots

Little Yellow Bicycle (LYB) Envelope Tag Album – Paper Secrets Challenge

Here’s a fun project I worked on for one of the challenges on Paper Secrets. Though the birthday bash is this weekend only (you’re entered for a chance to win a prize w/each challenge you complete and each challenge has it’s own prize! Entries are due by 11:59 PT on Monday, April 4, 2011). For the month of April, instead of having the usual challenges, Kristi has decided to give everyone a chance to play along with the ones we created for the Birthday Bash, so if even if you do not get your project done for this weekend’s event, you can still enter your project for the April monthly prize! πŸ˜€

For the P-A-R-T-Y Stash challenge, YOU “create a project using items starting with the letters found in “PARTY”. All of your items should be visible so adhesive & tools will not count.” The example given was: P-pins, A-alphabets, R-ribbon, T-tape, and Y-yarn.

For my entry, I created an envelope tag album by LYB and embellished it using the Cupcake Love collection that I won on Glue Arts Facebook giveaway back in February (or was it early March?). Thank you Glue Arts and LYB!!! Now, it’s ready for Madison’s birthday pictures that I haven’t had a chance to get developed yet! Here’s how it turned out:

I went with P-Pink Patterned Paper, A-Album, R-Ribbon, T-Tags (the envelopes have tags inside, but I also added a canvas tag), Y-YoYo flowers. Here are SOME of the pages, starting with the front cover:

Here’s the back of the cover:

Two of the center spreads:

The other pages were decorated more simply, so I didn’t add photos of them. As you can see, I still left plenty of room for tons of cutie photos of my “lil cupcake”! πŸ˜€
