Crazy 4 U – Creative Embellishments July Challenge + Sketchabilities 142

What’s better than an awesome Creative Embellishments Challenge? Combining it with a fabulous sketch by Sketchabilities! CE is sponsoring Sketch #142, so there are even more ways to win a GC to the Creative Embellishments store! 😀

For the Creative Embellishments July challenge, you just need to combine the inspiration photo with the added twist of adding something wood to your project (layout, card, tag, art journal page, altered piece, etc). This month, we were given the option to also combine the challenge with sketch #142. To check out what everyone came up with, be sure to check out this post on the CE blog: July Challenge

This was such a fun challenge for me! I love Karan’s sketches and am always inspired by them. 😀 I was further inspired by the colors, fence, and flowers from our inspo image. The blades of the windmill also reminded me of mesh, so I used drywall tape that I painted in the background of my design. CE stamps are so much fun to work with, so I used several of them to create my background which had started out as smooth white paper. I used watered down Distress stains for the base and Distress ink and Stazon ink with CE stamps to create my own background for this page. The chippies (flourish and fence) and drywall tape were altered using acrylic paint (both liquitex and Lumiere). For the twist, I left my CE wood veneer pieces bare so you can really see the intricate detailing on them, which they’re known for. 😀

Here’s what I came up with:

Creative Embellishments and Scrap Around the World

It’s been ages since I last crafted, so it was great to take some time out to create a layout using some of my favorite Creative Embellishments chippies, veneers and an adorable flair button. 😀 CE is sponsoring Scrap Around the World this month and their incredibly talented dt members were given the opportunity to guest design for SATW as well! Check out this post CLICK HERE on the CE blog to see teams amazing examples for the SATW challenge! Here’s the gorgeous mood board SATW has to inspire us this month:

I was inspired by the natural, earthy colors, flowers, waves in the lady’s hair, the wood. Here’s what I came up with:

Like a Mother to Me – layout for Creative Embellishments

Hi everyone, it’s Thursday again, which means I’m up on the Creative Embellishments blog with a layout to share. This week, I went with a page featuring my mil. I’ll be honest, I really struggled with how to do this page. My mil is a very simple woman and likes simplicity. My daughter’s favorite color is purple (which I struggle with) and she loves flowers, but my mil likes CAS. What a really wanted to capture is what a wonderfully inspirational and fabulous role model she truly is. I hope I did her justice. For my page I incorporated one of the new fancy rectangle frames which I altered with a couple of different distress stains and blended together. I did the same with the antique clock which I topped off with one of the new Mother’s Day flair pieces and the green part of the Spring flourish. I then colored the flowers on the flourish using Pitt artist markers and while it was still wet, went over it with gesso to mute the color, yet have it bleed through. I worked it with the brush to draw out more of the color and create some variegation. Here’s how my page turned out:

It Takes a Real Man to be a Dad – Creative Embellishments May challenge

For the Creative Embellishments May Challenge, there’s an inspiration photo to combine with a sketch created by Nicolle. Like several others, I was inspired by the flowers in the inspo image, so I incorporated flowers on what at first appears to be quite a masculine page. I also loved the visual texture of the mountains, so I selected papers that mimicked them to me (the blue papers). From the sketch I carried over the circle elements from the background and incorporated the splatters, circular rope frame and matted my photo with a panel (the steampunk gear panel). I replaced the element on the lower right with elements from the baby, baby, baby wood veneer set. For this layout, I decided to leave my pieces bare to go with the earthy feel of the background. Here’s how my example turned out:
