I Miss…Moments Like This – Layout for Once Upon a Sketches and Paper Secrets

Today is the first day of the Paper Secrets Birthday Bash celebration! There will be games, challenges and prizes all weekend long! So stop on by for some crafty inspiration, challenges and fun! 😀

For this year’s event, I have the honor of starting things off with our first challenge. I created this Tic-Tac-Toe board for the challenge:

All you need to do to enter is select 1 row, column or diagonal line of boxes and use those items on your project. You may choose to create a layout, card, mini album or altered art piece. Then upload your NEWLY created project to the PS Gallery with the KEYWORD “TTT” by 11:59 pm PDT on Tuesday, April 3rd for your chance to win a $20 e-gift certificate to the Paper Secrets Store!

For my example for this challenge, I decided to combine the challenge criteria with the sketch and journaling prompt at Once Upon a Sketch. The current theme is “I miss…” so I created this layout about how we miss cuddling with Matthew as he napped as a baby. Out of all of our children he loved to cuddle the most and often napped in one of our arms. Though Christian is still a tot, he rarely ever wants to do that and doesn’t tend to sit still long enough for it to happen. Madison is the only other child that liked to cuddle until she fell asleep, but that was only until she learned to walk at 10 mths. For the Tic-Tac-Toe part of the challenge I selected the first column from the board (patterned paper, border punch and chipboard) and here’s what I came up with after I rotated the sketch counter-clockwise:

Materials:

Authentique Genuine pp
Authentique Genuine diecut alphas and stickers
Dusty Attic lasercut chipboard
acrylic paint
Faber Castell Gelatos
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist

Adhesives:

Helmar 450 Quick Dry
Helmar Premium Craft Glue
Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots

Tool:

Fiskars border/edge punch

3rd Birthday – Layout 2nd page for Pagemaps Challenge

I decided to create page that coordinates with the layout on my previous post. For the 2nd page of the layout, I used the current Pagemaps sketch, due midnight on Sunday, Feb 5, 2012 (MST). I used a lot of the same papers and materials to make the 2 pages more cohesive since they weren’t meant to be a 2 page spread (which I don’t tend to make anyway). I still wanted to show that the 2 pages go together for the same event. Since it goes with the previous layout, I did not add a title to this page and moved the journaling to work more for what I changed. Here’s my take on the sketch:

Materials:

October Afternoon Hometown and Daydreams pp
OA Modern Homemaker buttons
OA rubons
OA County Fair and Daydreams diecut shapes
OA Detours diecut journaling cards
Twine from The Twinery
Maya Road trim
Distress Ink

Adhesives:

Helmar Quick Fix Adhesive Runner
Helmar 450 Quick Dry
Helmar Zap Dots
Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots

Alex – Once Upon a Sketch

Once Upon a Sketch is a unique site that pairs journaling with sketch challenges. The current journaling requirement is to write at least 2 sentences about when and why you started scrapbooking. My title is Alex (my first bio son) and the journaling reads…When my “Baby” became a big brother. The journaling strips clarify further and say…Once Madison was born and Alex was 3 1/2 and I was pregnant with Matthew, I figured it was about time for me to start Alex’s Baby Book.

I originally wanted the photo we took at the hospital when Madison was born, showing little Alex holding her propped with a pillow and trying to feed her a bottle with the other hand (with Larry’s help of course), but wasn’t able to find that photo. So, I went with a photo of Alex as a baby…it’s actually a reprint of the photo I used on the very first scrapbook layout I ever made. The intro page to Alex’s Baby Book. 😀

This week, the challenge on The Paper Variety is to include a family member’s title or the word “family” on your paper project. Here’s what I came up with for the challenges:

Materials:

Prima Londonerry Papers
Prima Londonerry flocked rubons
Prima Londonerry chipboard
Prima Londonerry flower
Prima Londonerry mini alphas
American Crafts Gold Glittered Thickers
2 different Maya Road chipboard Alphas
Golden Rod Stiokles

Adhesives:

Helmar Premium Craft Glue
Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots

Tools:

Martha Stewart Doily Lace border punch

The Thickers on my project were provided by Firefly Expressions since they are the featured product this coming week. The scrolls under the layered chipboard circles is a gold glittered Thickers piece that I cut in half and reversed. I then layered 2 prima chipboard pieces on top and then added a gold glittery circle from the same set of Thickers on top of that (right under the flower). Always Together – Sketchy Thursdays 9.15 sketch and ScrapFIT

Sketchy Thursdays has partnered up with ScrapFIT this week for their challenge! Simply combine sketch 9.15 from Sketchy Thursdays with the theme “Friendship” for twice the chance to win. Full details are on their blogs.

For my take on the sketch, I went with the fab Max and Mollie line by Nikki Sivils. I added some stitching to accentuate the sunrays that are part of the paper’s design, fussy cut a few details to layer (the sun and 2 of the flowers) and cut out the cutie Max and Mollie characters from the cut apart page. Then, all it needed was an MME (My Mind’s Eye) Stella and Rose journal spot, the packaging from some Prima bling and a little Cosmo Cricket sticker for the journaling area. 😀 The rhinestones are by Queen and Co. The journaling reads, “Just 13 mths apart, you two do everything together & are the best of friends. We were so worried you 2 would have trouble adjusting to being separated that we started Matthew in PreK early.” Here’s the layout I created based on the theme from ScrapFIT and sketch 9.15 from Sketchy Thursdays:

Adhesives:

Helmar Adhesive Runner
Helmar Acid Free Glue
Helmar Gemstone Glue

Tools:

EK Success border punch
