Count Your Blessings – dt layout for Creative Embellishments

It’s Thursday, so I’m up with a layout to share on the Creative Embellishments blog, created using several of my Fall favorites from the Creative Embellishments store. I can’t resist the many gorgeous frames they’ve added, so I even nested 2 of them on my page. lol

I snapped this pic of Matthew right after he’d had a haircut. I actually have a pic of him that was right before it where he’s sulking because he didn’t want me taking pictures, but when I asked him for just one good one, this is the cutie wide-mouthed grin I captured. lol

I was also inspired by the Purple Pumpkin November sketch:

Here’s close up of the butterfly I altered using gelatos:

So Cute Layout – Creative Scrappers/Tres Chic Unique

For my third layout using the Tres Chic Unique Kit, I decided to scrap the photos of my father w/Alex that go with the first layout I created using this kit (titled Remember This). The photos from these 2 layouts were very difficult for me to scrap. Of all my children, Alex is the only one my parents have met. I have very few photos of them and these were taken when I was hopeful that they would love Alex the way grandparents should. They’re bittersweet and my heart aches to look at them, but I knew I need to preserve that memory. Those moments when the past did not matter and I thought a baby would bring about a new beginning. I haven’t seen my parents since Alex was 2 years old. When, once again, my mother stated that he was not their grandchild (Alex and all my bio children are half caucasian), and I worried that he would soon be able to understand the words she spoke, even if they were in Korean…I knew I could not put my children through the heartache that comes with a relationship with my parents. I could not allow them to be made to feel that they were not good enough and that nothing they ever accomplished would measure up to expectations. To me, this page is more like a glimpse of how things should have been, rather than the way there were.

All materials on this layout are included in the Tres Chic Unique kit except the button, white acrylic paint which I mixed with the Maya mist to splatter onto the background, and distress ink. I used the Creative Scrappers sketch #186 for inspiration and here’s what I came up with:

To create the doily “flowers” I cut the center out of the Maya Road doilies included in the kit and set it aside to use as a base. Then I cut a slit in the remaining ring and pleated it into a smaller circle and glued it onto the section I’d cut out using Helmar’s 450 Quick Dry. I also used the 450 Quick Dry to attach the crocheted flower and Liquid Scrap Dots to hold the button.

Here’s the wonderful CS sketch #186:

In the Spotlight – DT Layout for Sketch #94

Charlotte created an amazing sketch for us to work with on the Let’s Capture These Sketches blog that was really fun to work with. It also happens that The Paper Variety is having a circle based challenge. To enter, your project must have at least 4 circles and be paper based. I’m pretty sure sketch #94 will make entering the Paper Variety challenge a snap! 😀

I decided to go with a photo of my daughter when she was just 1 1/2 years old. We were at one of Larry’s huge family’s summer reunions and some of the older family members were playing their guitars and singing. Well my little shoeless tot decided to start dancing right there in the middle of circle of spectators and quickly stole the show. The non-concentric circles made me think of a spotlight, so I figured the topic was perfect for the sketch. I also got to use the fab Webster’s Pages papers that Fia so kindly sent me during my dt term at Sketches4All. Here’s what I came up with for the example for the sketch and my entry in The Paper Variety challenge:

Materials:

Webster’s Pages Trendsetter papers
WP princess petal
WP cameo
WP whimsies (resin flowers)
WP vintage inspired netting
WP Vintage Sparkler
WP Storytellers Alpha stickers
Want 2 Scrap bling flourishes

Adhesives:

Helmar 450 Quick Dry
Helmar adhesive runner
Helmar acid free glue

Tools:

Martha Stewart Circle Cutter

True Beauty Layout – Bo Bunny Layout Challenge

Bo Bunny has a wonderful sketch posted for their challenge this month, so I knew I just had to play along! I selected this photo of Madison that I’ve been meaning to get to. It’s so hard for me to get a good picture of her unless I catch her by surprise…even then, it’s hit or miss…when she poses for the camera, she tends to plaster an odd smile on her face (like so many children do!) or when trying not to have a fake smile, she won’t smile at all and therefore appears sullen when she’s not. My one and only daughter is also full of attitude, so it often shows in her photos. lol 😀 I happened to catch her just right in this pic, so I figured it would be perfect for the BB Sketch. The Gabrielle range was perfect w/the purple of her shirt, so here’s my take:

Materials:

Bo Bunny Gabrielle papers
BB Gabrielle chipboard stickers
BB Gabrielle layered chipboard
BB Gabrielle layered stickers
BB Gabrielle Cardstock sticker
BB Gabrielle Trinket
Distress Inks
Hero Arts crocheted trim
cream seam binding
Inkssentials white pen

Adhesives:

Helmar Adhesive Runner
Helmar Zap Dots
Helmar Acid Free Glue

Tools:

2 different Fiskars border/edge punches

Based on the BB challenge sketch:

TFL! Entries are due on 7/28/11 around 4pm eastern (see the countdown clock next to the inlink button for exact deadline). If you’d like to link up your take on the sketch, CLICK HERE.
