Paper Secrets NSD Challenges are still open

Happy Mother’s Day everyone! The Paper Secrets National Scrapbooking Day challenges are still open! If you happen to find a lull in your day, stop on by for some great challenges w/awesome prizes. Entries need to be received by 11:59 pm PST tonight to be elligible for prizes. Don’t worry though, if you miss the NSD challenges, there are also 4 May challenges posted that aren’t due until the end of the month! So far you’ve seen my examples for the recipe challenge and the sketch challenge. Now it’s time for me to share my examples for the color combo challenge. Our very talented Amy, has challenged us to use the Turquoise, Red and White color combo on any project of our choice. You can do a layout, card or tag!

Though I love the colors and have used them in other color combos with ease, I tend to shy away from this trendy and very popular color combo. It’s everywhere in the previous CHA releases. You’ll find it with Lily Bee, Crate Paper, Webster’s Pages, Cosmo Cricket and I’m sure many others! What is it about turquoise and red together that I have trouble with? After quite a bit of thought, I’m relatively certain it’s a simply that they are both such bold colors. Well, if for no other reason than the fact that I like to step out of my comfort zone, I just HAD to participate in this one! My last project was a layout and the next one requires it to be a layout, so for this challenge I went with both a card and a tag. Here’s my take:

Materials (card):

American Crafts white cardstock
MME Kaleidoscope 12×12 papers
MME Lush2 trim
Crafty Secrets Heartwarming Vintage Booklet

Adhesives:

Helmar Zap Dots
Helmar 450 Quick Dry
Glue Arts Glue Glider Pro Perma Tac

Materials (tag):

WP scraps
MME Kaleidoscope 12×12 paper
Crafty Secrets Heartwarming Vintage Booklet
WP Chipboard button
twine
seam binding
Punched paper scrap

How Old Are You? – Sketches in Thyme challenge entry

Here’s another layout I created using the fabulous Stella and Rose collection by My Mind’s Eye. I’ve been very impressed with how well the embellishments coordinate with all of papers. I especially like their new label stickers and metal buttons! The brads for this collection are reminiscent of ones they came out with for the Lost and Found collection. Love them!

For this layout, I again stuck with the “Hazel” range and based it off of the Pagemaps sketch for the Thursday Takes Challenge #38 at Sketches In Thyme:

Materials:

My Mind’s Eye Stella and Rose “Mother” papers
MME Stella and Rose “Mother” transparency
MME S&R “Lovely” label sticker
MME S&R “Fancy” button
MME S&R “Lovely” brads
MME S&R “Memories” trims
Webster’s Pages Storytellers alphas

Adhesives:

Glue Arts Glue Glider Pro PermaTac
Helmar 450 Quick Dry liquid

Christmas Past Layout – Sketchy Thursdays challenge entry

Sketchy Thursdays posted a sketch challenge for the March GDT. To mix things up, they also added a few other requirements. To enter, the layout had to have either pink and green or red and turquoise, hearts, and a list about something or someone you love.

Well, I’m still working on finishing up Alex’s scrapbook and the themes that were left were one Christmas layout or two Halloween layouts. I couldn’t think of a way to incorporate Halloween with those colors, so I went with the last Christmas page left to scrap in his book. I was really happy with how things just fell into place. The photos are from 2007, and I just got the Coordinations Graphic 45 Core Impressions cardstock with the timepieces after wanting it for so long. I then thought of the title…Christmas Past (I was thinking along the lines of A Christmas Carol), so how fitting that I ended up using g45’s Christmas Past papers too!

Not sure if you can read the list in the photo, but on the banner, it says smart, funny, cute, sweet and loving…one word on each pennant to describe my son Alex. Here’s what I came up with:

Materials:

Graphic 45 Christmas Past cardstock
Core Impressions G45 Timeless Collection
Prima flowers
Heidi Grace Pocket Button
Darice craftwood heart
Webster’s Pages Storytellers alphas
Cosmo Cricket tiny type alphas
Tattered Angels shimmer mist
Ranger distress inks
Ranger alcohol inks (to recolor the button)
Jute

Adhesives:

Glue Arts Glue Glider Pro PermaTac
Scotch Quick Dry adhesive
Helmar Professional Acid Free Glue
American Crafts This to That foam dots

Cupcake Card

The Paper Variety is having a great challenge this week (ends noon eastern on Tues, Feb. 15, 2011). All you need to do to enter is create a card, layout or project that uses paper and features a cupcake! 😀 Here’s my entry:

Materials:

MME Wild Asparagus Birthday Girl cardstock
American Crafts white and pink cardstock
Webster’s Pages Lullaby Lane In Due Time cardstock
Bo Bunny red button
<dmc red embroidery floss
cut up bits of solid scrap paper for the sprinkles
Distress Ink in Worn Lipstick

Adhesives:

Helmar 450 Quick Dry Liquid Adhesive
Glue Arts Glue Glider Pro Perma Tac adhesive
American Crafts This to That foam dots
Scotch Quick Dry Adhesive

I’m not sure if you can tell from the photo, but the icing part of the cupcake is dimensional. I cut out the same hand drawn shape 4 times and cut out a notch for the button (cherry) in the second layer, the first rounded mound on the third layer and the fourth layer just has the bottom ridge of icing. TFL!
