Happy Birthday Wish – dt layout for Creative Embellishments

WOOHOO It’s birthday month over at Creative Embellishments. Not only is my birthday in April, but Nicolle and Sandi are also celebrating birthdays this month. 😀 Since Nic is turning the big 4-0 this year, she’s decided that for this month’s challenge, she’ll be giving away a $40 gc to the Creative Embellishments store to the winner! How awesome is that?

The challenge this month is use the inspiration image any way you’re inspired and select at least 4 items out of the list of 10 to use on your page. You may use any other embellishments you’d like, as long as you also incorporate at least 4 items from the list.

For my page, I was inspired by the birthday theme of the inspo image and the colors, candles, balloons, cake, stripes and dots. From the list, I was originally going to use most of the items, but had a change of plans, so instead I simplified and went with these 4 items: doodling, enamel dots, mist and paint, bling (rhinestones on the crown).

I was also inspired by Sketchabilities sketch #112, so I used the CE Rings for So Many things and View Master Photo Slides to replace the circular elements and flowers from the sketch. The wood pieces from the Birthday Fun wood veneer set were all altered using PITT artist markers. The word “wish” at the top of my page is actually cut from the Wishful Thinking title piece. The remaining 2 CE products I used for my page are the Happy Birthday title piece and the Wavy Music note border (which I left raw).

Here’s how it turned out:

Son, Spread Your Wings – dt layout for Sketchabilities

Sketch #106 at Sketchabilities is now live! For my example for the challenge, I decided to go with a neutral background and pops of blue, rusty orange and metallics to compliment my photo of my oldest son, Taten.

As soon as I saw the sketch, I knew I wanted to replace the circular elements and flourishes with Creative Embellishments gears and that fabulous steampunk clock and gear cluster I’ve been saving for the perfect page. Here’s what I came up with:

Spread Your Wings

Together – dt layout for Creative Embellishments

Hey, everyone! It’s Thursday, so I’m up on the Creative Embellishments blog. :-D I like mixing things up, working different styles and even playing around with different types of projects (though I still seem to struggle with card making of all things! lol). So, my page today is a lot simpler and more straight forward than usual. One of the CE pieces I used is the film strip frame which is still a fave of mine. I simply dabbed and swiped it with a black paint dabber and voila…an eye catching frame for my pic of my only daughter with my youngest son. His favorite phrase at the moment seems to be, “You’re my best friend”…which he says to all his siblings. ;-) They each beam with pride whenever he says it to them and give him tons of hugs and kisses whenever they hear it. He’s more than a little spoiled by their attention, but I guess that’s the perk of being the youngest. :-D

To tie in the frame piece w/the rest of the page, I also used 2 wood cuts. The movie projector and reel seemed like the perfect coordinating accents. To alter those, I used a black PITT big brush marker and acrylic ink. I find with smaller, more intricate pieces, I have more control of where I apply the color this way.

Here’s what I came up with:

Here’s a detail shot of another cluster on my page w/a WP bookmarker and dangling cameo which I altered with Smooch:

I was also inspired by the Scrap and Music challenge #12 which features and awesome sketch and song (Stop! by Erasure) for title inspiration:

Nicolle and Mike have been working hard to get more GORGEOUS pieces designed and added to the Creative Embellishments store. NEW items are being added almost every day! Be sure to check often to see what’s new! :-D

Beach Memories – dt layout for Sketchabilities

For my example of sketch #100 at sketchabilities, I used the 4 Nautical themed wood cuts by Creative Embellishments and their laser cut Life Preserver chipboard piece. CE is also sponsoring this challenge and offering a $20 gc prize to one lucky winner! 😀 Here’s what I came up with:

beach memories

The compass, star and life preserver are actually navy blue, but look black in the pic. I was also inspired by the challenge at 7 Dots Studio to incorporate “memories” into the page and the challenge at scrapki-wyzwaniowo to use the colors green, yellow and blue.

Materials:

Creative Embellishments anchor, boat wheel, compass and star wood cuts
CE Life Preserver chipboard
CE flourish
7 Dots Studio 9th Wave and Wonderland paper
Drywall tape
gesso
Modeling paste
TH timpiece
TH corked vial
Jute
acrylic paint
Liquitex acrylic ink
Lindy’s Stamp Gang Moon Shadow Inks
LSG Starburst Spray
Cardboard and tissue paper from my stash
