3rd Birthday – Layout 2nd page for Pagemaps Challenge

I decided to create page that coordinates with the layout on my previous post. For the 2nd page of the layout, I used the current Pagemaps sketch, due midnight on Sunday, Feb 5, 2012 (MST). I used a lot of the same papers and materials to make the 2 pages more cohesive since they weren’t meant to be a 2 page spread (which I don’t tend to make anyway). I still wanted to show that the 2 pages go together for the same event. Since it goes with the previous layout, I did not add a title to this page and moved the journaling to work more for what I changed. Here’s my take on the sketch:

Materials:

October Afternoon Hometown and Daydreams pp
OA Modern Homemaker buttons
OA rubons
OA County Fair and Daydreams diecut shapes
OA Detours diecut journaling cards
Twine from The Twinery
Maya Road trim
Distress Ink

Adhesives:

Helmar Quick Fix Adhesive Runner
Helmar 450 Quick Dry
Helmar Zap Dots
Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots

So Cute Layout – Creative Scrappers/Tres Chic Unique

For my third layout using the Tres Chic Unique Kit, I decided to scrap the photos of my father w/Alex that go with the first layout I created using this kit (titled Remember This). The photos from these 2 layouts were very difficult for me to scrap. Of all my children, Alex is the only one my parents have met. I have very few photos of them and these were taken when I was hopeful that they would love Alex the way grandparents should. They’re bittersweet and my heart aches to look at them, but I knew I need to preserve that memory. Those moments when the past did not matter and I thought a baby would bring about a new beginning. I haven’t seen my parents since Alex was 2 years old. When, once again, my mother stated that he was not their grandchild (Alex and all my bio children are half caucasian), and I worried that he would soon be able to understand the words she spoke, even if they were in Korean…I knew I could not put my children through the heartache that comes with a relationship with my parents. I could not allow them to be made to feel that they were not good enough and that nothing they ever accomplished would measure up to expectations. To me, this page is more like a glimpse of how things should have been, rather than the way there were.

All materials on this layout are included in the Tres Chic Unique kit except the button, white acrylic paint which I mixed with the Maya mist to splatter onto the background, and distress ink. I used the Creative Scrappers sketch #186 for inspiration and here’s what I came up with:

To create the doily “flowers” I cut the center out of the Maya Road doilies included in the kit and set it aside to use as a base. Then I cut a slit in the remaining ring and pleated it into a smaller circle and glued it onto the section I’d cut out using Helmar’s 450 Quick Dry. I also used the 450 Quick Dry to attach the crocheted flower and Liquid Scrap Dots to hold the button.

Key to My Heart – Creative Scrappers/Tres Chic Unique

For my second layout using the Tres Chic Unique kit, I used the gorgeous sketch #185 from Creative Scrappers. I was really inspired by the embellishment clusters and placement and knew it was perfect for the photo I had in mind. Here’s what I came up with:

All pp’s on this layout are included in the TCU kit. The journaling spot, sticker and twine are also part of the Colorful Kit. Non-kit items are:

Maya Road snowflake transparencies
MME brads
Kaisercraft pearls
American Crafts plastic snowflakes and mittens
Webster’s Pages Whimsey heart
Pink Paislee Vintage Vogue lace ribbon
Acrylic paint

Adhesives:

Helmar 450 Quick Dry
Helmar Premium Craft Glue
Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots

Tools:Fiskars punch (upper right corner)
Martha Stewart Doily Lace Punch

Prickly Kisses – Sketchy Thursdays and Bo Bunny Challenges

Love when things just come together so naturally. 😀

When I saw the 10.6 sketch at Sketchy Thursdays, I knew it would be perfect for this set of photos I’ve been wanting to scrap with Christian, who was 4 months old at the time, and Larry. We just can’t resist those chubby cheeks of his! Anyway, Larry’s kisses tend to get pretty prickly especially if it isn’t immediately after he shaves. Christian weathers though fine now, but wow when he was an infant, he’d wail for me to rescue him after just a kiss or two! lol

In the photos, he’s wearing a cutie one piece outfit and is wrapped in a matching muslin blanket which he loved, so I wanted to bring out the colors from the patterns. Bo Bunny’s Welcome home from their last release was just perfect! I anxiously stalked the mailman waiting for the papers, trinkets, brads and noteworthy pack to be delivered so I could get started! The colors and designs on the papers were so much prettier than I’d expected. Gorgeous!!! BB’s current layout challenge is to add dimension to your page, rather than a sketch, so I was able to combine these two challenges. Here’s what I came up with for my layout using the fab BB papers and embellies and the wonderful Sketchy Thursdays’ sketch:

Materials:

Bo Bunny Welcome Home papers
BB Welcome Home trinkets
BB Welcome Home Noteworthy diecut journal pages
BB Welcome Home Brads
BB Welcome Home jewels
BB Welcome Home diecut sticker
Maya Road chipboard alphas
Folk Art Acrylic paint
Tim Holtz Distress Ink

Adhesives:

Helmar Quick Fix adhesive runner
Helmar 450 Quick Dry
Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots
