Just Yawning Layout – Sketchy Thursdays and Get Picky entries

Wow! So many wonderful challenges available this month! There seems to be something for everyone! For this layout, I decided to combine some of them. I started with the awesome 8.4 sketch from Sketchy Thursdays, then added the inspiration challenge from Get Picky, then since I was going with Sassafras papers and embellies, I could also throw in their August challenge criteria…3 or more different alphas. Here’s what I came up with:

Materials: Sassafras Mix and Mend Handmade Hobnob paper
Sassafras Mix and Mend journaling Tags
Sassafras Mix and Mend Sweet Treats (diecut stickers)
Sassafras Kelly Green Glitter Alpha stickers
Sassafras Chocolate Glitter Alpha stickers
Sassafras Yellow Paper Alpha stickers
Sassafras Blue In a Stitch Blossom
Twine from the Twinery
Webster’s Pages storytellers alpha sticker (just the question mark)

Hurry! Hop on, Mom – Layout

For this layout I combined the July color challenge (with a twist) on Paper Secrets with a gorgeous sketch#88 by Ness on Let’s Capture These Sketches.

Be sure to stop by these great sites for some fun and inspiring challenges! Let’s Capture These Sketches features a new card and layout sketch each week. Card sketches are usually posted on Fridays and Layout sketches are posted on Saturday. Hope you stop by and play along! Paper Secrets features 4 new monthly challenges which are posted on the 1st of every month and all entries are due by the end of the month. This month, we have a color challenge, a manufacturer challenge, a card sketch and a layout sketch! Each completed project that is posted to the gallery gives you one entry for the monthly prize…a $25 gift certificate to the PS store!

These photos are from when Matthew was 2 and Madison was 3. They were pretending that the Earth was melting and they built a rocket ship to the moon. Surrounded by these toys…their space craft…they urgently yelled for me to hop on before it’s too late! I teasingly told them that there wasn’t any room, so Matthew frantically tried to grab and shift some objects to make room, not realizing that all he was doing was making it more cramped. He soon gave up. If you look closely at their faces, you can tell Madison didn’t find my teasing so amusing especially when Matthew gives up his expansion efforts and I tell them, well, I guess I have to stay here and fry. lol

Life – Helmar’s June Challenge

Helmar posted their first monthly challenge on their blog and I was really excited to see it! It’s a gorgeous sketch by DT member Lydell Quin! Well, I was a bit intimidated considering I wanted to make sure my project was Helmar-worthy for one, but also because when I think of Helmar’s fabulous adhesives, I think of Tracy Weinzapfel (who I didn’t find out until later that she’s the president of Helmar?!!) and when I think of Tracy, I think artsy artsy artsy! Pretty and artsy. Not exactly my comfort zone kinda stuff? Anyway, if you know Tracy, you know she’s a high-energy, you gotta try it, very inspirational, very motivational type of positive person, so I just HAD to do something that was outside of my norm.

When I looked at the sketch, I first thought of a photo of Christian I’ve been wanting to sketch, but the idea that formed wasn’t really do-able w/o being about the resize the photo, so I scratched that idea. Then I remembered that I’ve been wanting to scrap one of the last ultrasound photos of Christian…it was from a series that came out exceptionally clear and you could see his profile perfectly. The rest came to me immediately after, but I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to make it look the way I’d like. In order to create my layout, I had to flip and rotate the sketch. I replaced some of the floral details with Larry’s and my sketched hands, but still included a few close to the central image. I combined this challenge with one hosted by Becky (fellow DT member) on Sketches4All. Her challenge is to journal around your page and add one other technique she uses in the sample posted in the thread. Here’s what I came up with:

Here’s a close up of my sketching. I haven’t sketched a thing in years and have never taken a single class, so please excuse the amateur quality to it:
