Rise Above It – dt layout for SWAT drill #17

Creative Embellishments is sponsoring the SWAT Drill #17 which is to use something that’s been fussy cut on your project.  Fussy cutting (sometimes called detailed cutting or fancy cutting) is one of my all time favorite techniques! Anything goes; a layout, card, tag, altered project, art journal page, etc. as long as you incorporate this technique on your project. 😀

For my example, I combined this technique with the sketch and suggested journaling theme (the journey) at Once Upon a Sketch. Here’s what I came up with:

Rise Above It

Here’s a close up of the Creative Embellishments Steampunk Hot Air balloon I used on my page. I altered it by applying a coat of Tim Holtz distress paint, then going over it with distress stain in a slightly darker shade. I then highlighted select areas with Smooch Ink in “cape cod” which is a lovely shade of blue:

The gorgeous Butterfly Garden papers by Pink Paislee and Dusty Attic chipboard pieces I used on this layout are currently available in the STTG Store HERE. Simply use the left hand navigation to click which products/manufacturers you’d like to browse. For my project, I altered the Dusty Attic chipboard pieces by whitewashing them with white acrylic paint. I then applied Helmar’s 2 step crackle. Once dry, I enhanced the cracks by inking with distress ink and wiping off the excess.

Be sure to stop by the Paper Secrets forum for the 5 new challenges for February too! This month, I am hosting the Vintage Stash Challenge. All you need to do to enter is use 5 out of the 10 items listed in the challenge thread on your paper based project and upload to the PS gallery with the tag “stash2” listed in the keywords. 😀
