Paper Secrets June Challenges Have Been Posted

Wow! May just flew by and there were so many gorgeous entries in our monthly challenges as well as the SYAO contest! If you haven’t seen them, be sure to stop by the gallery and check them out! 😀 With a whole new month comes another round of fabulous challenges! The Paper Secrets June challenges are up and ready for all you eager scrappers out there! 😀 The 4 challenges this month are a color challenge with a twist (add fabric or felt), a Pagemaps layout sketch, a manufacturer challenge (Bo Bunny) and a card sketch w/a twist (must use a stamped image). For the Pagemaps sketch, Kristi let me use my Pumpkin layout that I made for a sketches4all challenge in May since I’d also already used the sketch for the You Shine a Light layout that month too! The Bo Bunny layout I made is in my previous post using the Creative Scrappers sketch#154. Here’s my take on the color challenge (for the twist I used a fabric ribbon):

Materials:

Blank sketch book
Echo Park For the Record 12×12 papers
EP For the Record diecut stickers
Pro Art Gesso
Yellow ribbon from my stash

Adhesives:

Helmar 450 Quick Dry
Helmar Acid Free Glue
Helmar Zapdots

Here’s my take on the card sketch with a twist (the hearts and sentiment are stamped):

Materials:

Webster’s Pages 6×6 papers
WP Ladies and Gents diecut stickers
Kanban stamp for the sentiment
Fiskars stamps for the hearts
Archival Ink

Adhesives:

Helmar 450 Scrapdots to give the hearts and sentiment dimension
Glue Arts Glue Glider Pro PermaTac

Tools:

Making Memories circle punch
EK Success scalloped circle punch

Buddies – MME Sketch Challenge Entry

For this layout, I again combined 2 challenges. There’s an awesome sketch by Anam Stubbington for the My Mind’s Eye Blog Challenge 23, so the basic layout is based on that sketch plus the final NSD Challenge on Paper Secrets is to create a layout with 3 handmade flowers, each made with a different technique. Now the real challenge was the fact that it’s a boy layout and I needed to create flowers that go with the page but didn’t seem girly! Here’s what I came up with:

Materials:

MME Stella & Rose Hattie “Family” Pinstripe Paper
MME S&R Hattie “Buddies” Argyle Paper
MME S&R “Family” Silk Tie Paper
MME S&R Hattie trim
MME S&R Hattie brads
MME S&R Hattie title
MME S&R Hazel paper (for one flower)
Echo Park For the Record paper (for one flower)

Adhesives:

Helmar 450 Quick Dry
Cosmo Cricket Gluber
Glue Arts Glue Glider Pro Perma Tac
Helmar Zap Dots

This is the fab sketch my layout is based on:

If you’d like to enter the MME sketch challenge, entries are due by Thursday, May 19, 2011 midnight MST. TFL!

Paper Secret’s May Challenges

The May challenges have been posted on Paper Secrets. Enter any or all of the 4 challenges to be entered to win the monthly prize! One is a card sketch challenge with a twist. The twist is to use a bare chipboard piece on your project and alter it in some way. For my card, I used a Maya Road butterfly and coated it with a Viva Pearl Pen (kind of like liquid pearls). Here’s what I came up with using Webster’s Pages, new Trendsetter 6×6 papers, bloomer, trims, pins, and their sparklers from last year:

Another is a layout challenge based on a pagemaps sketch. I combined it with a “something old/something new” challenge on Sketches4All that also required you to add sparkle and dimension to your project. For this one, I went with MME’s original Lush line (the light blue patterned paper, trim and brads) and mixed it with Lush 2 (the fuchsia and navy papers and journaling spot). The buttons were also old, as were the WP and Cosmo Cricket alphas for the title. Here’s how it turned out:

The journaling is just explaining how incredulous we were when when Matthew was an infant (he was early too) and Madison was a year old (90th percentile for height and weight), how often we were asked if they were twins. Ha! 😀

The last example I have is for the stash/supply challenge. For this month, all you need to do is use 3 or more rubons on your project. For mine, I used a Kraft base, scraps for the matting, American crafts trim, yarn from my stash, and Bo Bunny rubons. Since I wanted to add dimension w/the rub-on images, I adhered them to plain cardstock, fussy cut them, then popped them up with foam dots. Here’s my example:

The overall design was a scraplift challenge on another site. The fourth challenge is a manufacturer challenge. This month’s featured manufacturer is Glitz. Unfortunately, I do not have any of Glitz’s fab products, so I wasn’t able to create an example for this challenge. Hope you stop by and join in on some of the great new challenges and don’t forget, we have a wonderful event scheduled to take place this Saturday, May 7, 2011 (National Scrapbooking Day), as well as the Scrap Your A** Off contest starting May 13th (sign up before May 12th to join in). HOPE TO SEE YOU THERE! 😀
