Kaisercraft Beyond the Page Altered Box

Today I’d like to share a fun project I got to work on for the Firefly Expression Blog. This week they’re featuring Kaisercraft, so the base of my project is their Beyond the Page All Purpose Box which is available in their store for $8.99. I wanted to show how you can easily mix old and new products with this fab line, so I used Webster’s Pages Country Estate Papers from their previous release, Pink Paislee’s Butterfly Garden rubons (received in my August prize kit from Marivic at Berry71bleu) and older Fancy Pants rub ons. The little pearls on the lid are also by Kaisercraft and are available in the Firefly Expressions Store for just $0.50.

See that fabulous green, blinged out butterfly on the front? It was also included in the fab prize pack Marivic sent me. Be sure to check out her fun September challenge for your chance to win an incredible kit too! 😀

And of course EVERYTHING is held together using fantastic Helmar adhesives!

I started out by slightly sanding, then painting it with vanilla acrylic paint. I didn’t coat it heavily because I wanted a lightly whitewashed kind of look to it. I then used the Helmar acid free glue to adhere the Webster’s Pages papers that I cut to size and fussy cut to layer images onto the lid. I then added a fabulous Unity stamp sentiment, some rubons and bling.

The cameo and resin bird are adhered with Helmar 450 Quick Dry and I used Liquid Scrap Dots for the butterfly. TFL!

Altered Helmar “Glue Daddy” Caddy

Caution: This post is photo heavy!

I was so excited when I came home from picking the kids up from school on Friday to find my Glue Daddy Caddy waiting on my doorstep! It didn’t take long for me to tear open the box and take it for test spin. Here’s the naked caddy decked out with my fave Helmar glues:

I knew this would be something I wanted easily accessible on my craft table and would be used frequently, so I had to make sure I created something that would really last. I started by applying Acid Free glue to one face of the caddy at a time and adhering tissue paper by 7 Gypsies. To remove the excess, I simply let the glue dry then sanded the edges, then moved onto the next side. Once all sides were covered, I inked the edges with distress ink. I then applied the 2 step crackle. Since this was my first project using this product, I was a little nervous, but let me tell you…it was soooo easy to use and the results are fantastic! I could readily see the crackle affect, but to accentuate them, I lightly buffed the piece with a papertowel dipped in a bit of brown acrylic paint. Working it into the cracks, I wiped the excess off with another part of the papertowel as I went, then sealed with Helmar’s Acrlic Sealer.

I LOVED the affect so much I didn’t want to cover the tissue paper design or crackle too much, so I only embellished one end of the holder with a couple 7 Gypsies sprocket gears, a Graphic 45 chipboard button and flower.

Here’s the finished piece with the fabulous Helmar products that helped make it happen:

Here are my happy glues in their new home:

The Local Wildlife – Mini Album

Paper Secrets manufacturer challenge this month is American Crafts. Lucky for me, Kristi (owner of PS) sent me these fabulous Campy Trails AC papers in my dt pack! Unfortunately, we’ve never been camping, and the most outdoorsy things we do are go fishing and take the kids to the playground. Hmmm…no pics of either! Yes, I know…I’m horrible at remembering to take the camera with us outside of the house. Well, July is the last month of my term for PS, so I thought I’d make more than a card with it. And since Kristi was nice enough to go out of her way to make sure I had AC product to work with, I wanted to use as much of it as possible for my last project with them. So, I decided to go with a mini album. I used a Kaisercraft Beyond the Page album as my base. I tried to minimize the other products I used so you can really see the AC papers well. After taking the photos I’ve since added some ribbons to the rings that hold the album. Here’s the mini closed:

Here’s the first open spread. Taten, like a typical 11 year old boy, thinks it’s hilarious to fart audibly at any time. The louder the better in his opinion. Which earned him a dubious nickname this last school year…which he is unfortunately proud of. Stinker.

Next it opens to Alex wearing deer antlers. It was the second time that year I received a photo of him wearing antlers since he came home from school with another photo of him with more realistic ones on, but that photo was too big for this album. This photo was taken at Larry’s huge annual family Christmas party. Opposite that page is Madison who was chasing Matthew around the living room growling like a bear. 😀

On the last spread there is Christian with his little chipmunk cheeks. I think that cutout image is actually a squirrel, but I figured it was close enough? What do you think? On the last page is Matthew…our little Imp. 😀

Sorry the photos aren’t clearer. They were taken on a hot, hazy and overcast day earlier this week. TFL!
