Creative Embellishments online Birthday Crop

Creative Embellishments just turned 5 and to celebrate, they’re hosting a HUGE online Birthday Crop filled with 8 mini challenges and 9 amazing prizes!!! Be sure to join their fan group on Facebook and click “going” on the event in order to play along and enter to win some goodies! All the challenges begin today, September 15th at 9 am ET and entries must be posted by midnight on Monday, September 17 (which is technically September 18th at 12 am ET). You do NOT need to use CE products on your projects to enter and win prizes! However, for those who do use CE products on their entries, there’s a BONUS PRIZE opportunity, so you have 2 chances to win with each project you create using CE products! 🙂

I’m one of the volunteers hosting a challenge this weekend and since birthdays usually come with presents, gift cards, cards, etc., I’d like you to either make a package or alter one! So either take an empty container and alter it or make an envelope box, gift bag, etc. For my examples, I altered/repurposed 2 empty boxes. One was the box my Webster’s Page Pocket TN came in and the other is a square jewelry gift box. Here’s how they turned out:

I started out by applying Finnabair/Prima crackle texture paste and allowed it to air dry. Then used Lindy’s Stamp Gang color shots to bring out the crackle pattern that emerged and give it more color and texture. Next I added bits of Webster’s Pages netting to each box. For the larger box, I added CE chipboard feathers that I altered with gesso and the same LSG color shots I’d used for the base, and a wood veneer heart from the CE Lovers Hearts Set. I finished it off by adding some skeleton leaves and flowers and a flair button from the Birds of a…. set.

A couple of close ups:

For the smaller box, I applied some gesso to one of the corners from the Steampunk Corner Set and snipped off the smallest 2 gears on both sides to better suit my box’s size and layered the cut off bits between the remaining 3 larger gears on the piece. I then topped this one off with a pair of flowers, a couple of metal leaves and layered metal flowers. Then finished it with a blue cameo tucked into the space created they layered elements.

One winner will be selected from all the entries on my challenge to receive this prize pack:

Here are the other prizes that will be awarded for the challenges during the crop (there are FOUR $30 gift vouchers that will be given out)…

IF you do use CE product on your entry projects, you can also enter to win this BONUS PRIZE:

I hope you enjoyed my examples for the challenge! To help give you more ideas, I’ll be posting photo tutorials on how to make an envelope box for A2 sized cards later today and a quick and easy gift bag base tomorrow. 🙂

Altered Memory Box

Hi everyone! I’m up today on the Creative Embellishments Blog sharing an altered paper mache box. This is actually the second time I’ve altered one of these. The previous one also featured lots of CE goodies, but it was smaller than this version. For this piece, I started out by spraying it down with a Krylon spray called Make it Stone. Once that dried overnight I splattered it first with a lot of different shimmering sprays by Lindy’s Stamp Gang and acrylic paint. I altered all the CE chippies with Liquitex acrylic paint and Jacquard Lumiere paints. Here’s what I came up with:

Altered Box – dt project for Creative Embellishments

Hi, everyone! It’s Thursday, so I’m up on the Creative Embellishments blog (I’d love it if you’d stop by and say hi!) to share a project I created using some of the fabulous CE chippies! I love the versatility of these intricate laser cut pieces. They’re perfect for layouts, cards, altered art, art journal pages and altered art projects. 😀

I started with a plain wooden box that I’ve had around for years. I actually use it to store my Pitt Big Brush markers and artist pens. I started by adhering 7 gypsies tissue paper to the entire outside, being careful to match up the pattern to give it continuity. I then coated it with Helmar 2 step crackle. Once that was set and dry, I filled in the beautiful cracks it created with deep brown acrylic paint. I just buff it on and wipe off the excess with a slightly damp rag or paper towel.

Once the base is complete, you can decorate it any way you want! 😀 Here’s how mine turned out:

Here’s an angled shot so you can see the front too:

To alter the birdcage, I used Pitt big brush markers and artist pens (yes, the same one I normally store in this box. lol), then I went over the birds with a bit of Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze to give them some shimmer and shine:

This flourish is actually a single piece that I cut in half, then painted w/Tim Holtz distress paint dabbers in 2 shades of green. I then added to the cluster w/some gorgeous I Am Roses flowers, a Prima Junkyard Findings bulb and a Webster’s Pages charm:

Kaisercraft Beyond the Page Altered Box

Today I’d like to share a fun project I got to work on for the Firefly Expression Blog. This week they’re featuring Kaisercraft, so the base of my project is their Beyond the Page All Purpose Box which is available in their store for $8.99. I wanted to show how you can easily mix old and new products with this fab line, so I used Webster’s Pages Country Estate Papers from their previous release, Pink Paislee’s Butterfly Garden rubons (received in my August prize kit from Marivic at Berry71bleu) and older Fancy Pants rub ons. The little pearls on the lid are also by Kaisercraft and are available in the Firefly Expressions Store for just $0.50.

See that fabulous green, blinged out butterfly on the front? It was also included in the fab prize pack Marivic sent me. Be sure to check out her fun September challenge for your chance to win an incredible kit too! 😀

And of course EVERYTHING is held together using fantastic Helmar adhesives!

I started out by slightly sanding, then painting it with vanilla acrylic paint. I didn’t coat it heavily because I wanted a lightly whitewashed kind of look to it. I then used the Helmar acid free glue to adhere the Webster’s Pages papers that I cut to size and fussy cut to layer images onto the lid. I then added a fabulous Unity stamp sentiment, some rubons and bling.

The cameo and resin bird are adhered with Helmar 450 Quick Dry and I used Liquid Scrap Dots for the butterfly. TFL!
