Family

This month, we’re one of the sponsors for the CSI Color Stories Inspiration challenge, so our DT got to play along with some of the challenges as guests. 😀 This page was inspired by case #212 and includes some of my favorite Creative Embellishments pieces. To alter the chippies, and wood veneer chevrons, I lightly coated them all with white gesso so the color could shine through. For the clock piece that I cut in half, I used acrylic paint to give them the gold finish (gold with a touch of bronze). I then altered the title with distress ink, and the flourishes with Lindy’s Stamp Gang color shots. Here’s how my page turned out:

Peace – Mixed Media Canvas

Simplicity is the name of the game around my house these days. With school back in session and new undertakings, it’s easy to get overwhelmed, so my project for today’s post on the Creative Embellishments Blog is an easy to create/recreate, mixed media canvas that I find very soothing. It was inspired by this month’s challenge image as well. 😀 It reminds me of quiet, winter nights and softly drifting flakes, so I used 2 lines from the poem, “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” by Robert Frost.

I started off by masking off sections of the canvas with dry wall tape. I then used a palette knife to apply modeling paste in sections. I let it set for a few minutes, then removed the dry wall tape, which then leaves the grid texture behind. Once that was dry, I spritzed the entire canvas using several shades of Tattered Angels shimmer mist and Lindy’s Stamp Gang Starbursts, applying the lightest shades to the center and the darkest towards the edges. To blend the colors so there wouldn’t be spray shaped splotches of color, I went over the whole piece with a spray bottle of plain water. I then blotted up the excess moisture with a paper towel, and dried it with my heat gun.

I used Versa Mark ink and Lindy’s Stamp Gang EP with my CE Snowflakes stamp to add some more background details. I like to cut apart larger chippies to use on different parts of a project, which is what I did for this one. I altered my chippies by coating the Snowflake Page Corner pieces with gesso, and heat embossing the title piece. I finished it off with a bit of bling. I hope you like how it turned out!

Mixed Media Birthday Tag – dt project for Creative Embellishments

Happy Thursday, everyone! I’m up on the Creative Embellishments blog with a quick, easy mixed media tag to share. I’ll be honest with you, I had totally intended to share a layout today and time sort of got away from me, which tends to happen when you’ve got 5 kids. lol So…I quickly got this tag together and it never ceases to amaze me how EASY CE products make it to embellish ANY type of project! No joke! Whether it’s a layout, canvas, altered piece, card or tag, once you have your theme in mind, CE products help you pull it all together with ease!

For my tag, I was loosely inspired by Nicolle’s birthday layout of her mother. I just loved how she used the distressed music note bg w/the music note border piece and the Happy Birthday title. So for my tag, I kept that feel to it, but used completely different products! 😀 Here’s how it turned out by using the Mesmerizing Music Notes stamp and Birthday Fun wood veneers:

Happy Birthday tag

I created the background by misting with Art Anthology mists, then used stazon ink to stamp the Mesmerizing Music notes onto it. I then inked the edges of the tag and flicked the whole bg w/some black paint (diluted so I wouldn’t get big globs). I altered the wood veneers using a mixture of the mist used on the bg (sprayed onto a palette and brushed on like paint or ink), silks glaze and Art Anthology Velvet paint, but I did leave the music notes bare. Layered under my flower cluster is a bit of painted mesh and some cheese cloth for added texture and dimension. Hope you like it! 😀
