Scrapbook Kits with a Difference August Challenges

The August SKWAD (Scrapbook Kits with a Difference) challenges are now live on the blog! Stop by and check out the dt’s fabulous examples and play along for your chance to win a fun scrappy prize! 😀

First up, we have the August Sketch Challenge. For my example, I went with Prima’s Meadow Lark collection. Everything used on my page is by Prima except the bit of trim from my stash (not sure who it is by). Here’s what I came up with:

This is the fantastic sketch by Annette Gearside:

The second challenge is the Inspiration Challenge. The Inspiration Challenge isn’t just about the colours – you may find yourself inspired by the image design, pictures or themes. You are also able to create an altered project, card, mini-album or art journal page for this challenge! 😀

Here’s what I came up with for the challenge (I was inspired by the colors and added white since it’s widely featured in the images. I also added scrolled chipboard pieces inspired by the chair and fence at the top of the inspiration image):

The papers and tag are Spring Jubilee by Pink Paislee, the cushies alphas are also by PP. The flowers are by Prima and the painted chippies are by Dusty Attic. I used a Martha Stewart round the page punch for the border.

Here’s the gorgeous inspiration pic for August:

To enter the SKWAD challenges, please email a photo of your completed layouts to scrapbookkitswithjules@gmail.com by midnight, August 31, 2012 Australian EST. If you’re not sure how to calculate the time difference, CLICK HERE for the current time in the correct time zone. I hope you play along!

I Miss…Moments Like This – Layout for Once Upon a Sketches and Paper Secrets

Today is the first day of the Paper Secrets Birthday Bash celebration! There will be games, challenges and prizes all weekend long! So stop on by for some crafty inspiration, challenges and fun! 😀

For this year’s event, I have the honor of starting things off with our first challenge. I created this Tic-Tac-Toe board for the challenge:

All you need to do to enter is select 1 row, column or diagonal line of boxes and use those items on your project. You may choose to create a layout, card, mini album or altered art piece. Then upload your NEWLY created project to the PS Gallery with the KEYWORD “TTT” by 11:59 pm PDT on Tuesday, April 3rd for your chance to win a $20 e-gift certificate to the Paper Secrets Store!

For my example for this challenge, I decided to combine the challenge criteria with the sketch and journaling prompt at Once Upon a Sketch. The current theme is “I miss…” so I created this layout about how we miss cuddling with Matthew as he napped as a baby. Out of all of our children he loved to cuddle the most and often napped in one of our arms. Though Christian is still a tot, he rarely ever wants to do that and doesn’t tend to sit still long enough for it to happen. Madison is the only other child that liked to cuddle until she fell asleep, but that was only until she learned to walk at 10 mths. For the Tic-Tac-Toe part of the challenge I selected the first column from the board (patterned paper, border punch and chipboard) and here’s what I came up with after I rotated the sketch counter-clockwise:

Materials:

Authentique Genuine pp
Authentique Genuine diecut alphas and stickers
Dusty Attic lasercut chipboard
acrylic paint
Faber Castell Gelatos
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist

Adhesives:

Helmar 450 Quick Dry
Helmar Premium Craft Glue
Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots

Tool:

Fiskars border/edge punch

Controlled by the 3DS – Layout for Pagemaps

For my take on the current Pagemaps sketch (due March 4, 2012), I decided to go with Echo Park’s A Boy’s Life papers, diecut stickers and alpha stickers to compliment these photos of Taten playing his 3DS (which is his current obsession). He’s always insisting that someone or another watch as he plays, whether it’s me, his father or Alex…some has GOT to watch! lol

All the adhesives used were by Helmar (Quick Fix adhesive runner and Zap Dots). Here’s what I came up with:

Beautiful – Layout using Glitz for Creative Scrappers Sketch #190

I love when things come together so perfectly. I’ve been loving the Creative Scrappers sketches lately. They’re so hard to resist! So when I saw sketch #190 earlier this month, I knew that once I got my dt work done for the month, I’d want to play along with this one too. 😀

I’d also seen that Glitz has started their challenges up again. I’ve been stalking their blog since summer hoping they would pick that back up since I’d never played along before and had received my first set of Glitz products right after their last challenge had ended. D’oh! lol I’m super excited that they’ve started hosting challenges again!

This month’s Glitz challenge features an inspiration photo and combining it with the CS sketch came naturally. Though the Glitz photo features a wintery scene, I was actually inspired by the circular mirror, soft textures, cushion of white and framing. I love how the greenery in the photo envelopes the circle, but leaves it some breathing room. These features were so easily replicated using the CS 190 sketch! Here’s what I came up with:

Here’s the fabulous Glitz inspiration image:

And the gorgeous CS sketch #190:

I used Glitz Beautiful Dreamer papers, Peek-a-Boo and Whatnots. Prima flowers and butterfly, ZVA Creative bling, ribbon and lace from my stash.

The STTG store has Beautiful Dreamer papers, paper layers, albums and stickers still in stock and 2 of the Glitz new releases (French Kiss and Pretty in Pink) are in as well! So be sure to stop by and check them out!
