Simple Moments – dt layout for LCTS and an announcement

For my take on the Let’s Capture These Sketches #115 by Natalie Roy, I went with some gorgeous Bo Bunny Welcome Home papers, sticker and chipboard. The “misletoe” is by Prima and the flowered trim is by May Arts (the blue lace w/sequins is from my stash). The fabulous corner flourish is by Dusty Attic and can be found in the STTG store HERE. I painted the DA chipboard piece with white acrylic paint and misted with Tattered Angels glimmer mist in Frost and a bit of Olive Vine. Here’s what I came up with:

This is the last layout I created for my previous term. It’s my example for sketch #114 created by Charlotte:

I used Best Creations Merry Christmas papers and diecut stickers for the entire layout. Though it doesn’t show well in the pic, Their papers all feature gorgeous glittery accents that are sealed to the paper (so no mess!). Since the papers weren’t smooth, I used Helmar’s Premium craft glue to adhere the papers and to reinforce the adhesive on the stickers. I love that even though the Premium Craft Glue is a liquid, it does not cause the paper to welt, curl or distort in any way! I get fantastic results every time! Sweet Moments/So Patient – 2 Layouts for Paper Secrets

Rochelle creates such gorgeous sketches for us to work with on the Paper Secrets forum each month. For my example for her sketch challenge this month, I used papers and a journaling card from an earlier Webster’s Pages Release. Sweet Season was just perfect for this photo of my daughter, Madison’s, gingerbread house project from Kindergarten. It doesn’t show up well in my pic, but I added stickles with a paint brush to 2 of the trees to give them some added sparkle and interest. I then added a couple of WP sparklers and a whimsey heart to finish it off.

The journaling reads: Oh, the joys of having a creative child! “Didn’t you want to use the milk carton base for your house?” I asked. “No, Mom, this is the witch’s house AFTER Hansel and Gretel ate it. See, they’re full!”

Here’s my example for Rochelle’s Sketch challenge:

Her awesome sketch:

This month, Nicolle is hosting the manufacturer challenge and she selected Jillibean Soup. They happened to have a sketch up on their blog, so I used it for my example for Nicolle’s manu challenge. The photo is from Matthew’s 3rd birthday as he patiently sat and waited for his presents. Here’s what I came up with:

So Cute Layout – Creative Scrappers/Tres Chic Unique

For my third layout using the Tres Chic Unique Kit, I decided to scrap the photos of my father w/Alex that go with the first layout I created using this kit (titled Remember This). The photos from these 2 layouts were very difficult for me to scrap. Of all my children, Alex is the only one my parents have met. I have very few photos of them and these were taken when I was hopeful that they would love Alex the way grandparents should. They’re bittersweet and my heart aches to look at them, but I knew I need to preserve that memory. Those moments when the past did not matter and I thought a baby would bring about a new beginning. I haven’t seen my parents since Alex was 2 years old. When, once again, my mother stated that he was not their grandchild (Alex and all my bio children are half caucasian), and I worried that he would soon be able to understand the words she spoke, even if they were in Korean…I knew I could not put my children through the heartache that comes with a relationship with my parents. I could not allow them to be made to feel that they were not good enough and that nothing they ever accomplished would measure up to expectations. To me, this page is more like a glimpse of how things should have been, rather than the way there were.

All materials on this layout are included in the Tres Chic Unique kit except the button, white acrylic paint which I mixed with the Maya mist to splatter onto the background, and distress ink. I used the Creative Scrappers sketch #186 for inspiration and here’s what I came up with:

To create the doily “flowers” I cut the center out of the Maya Road doilies included in the kit and set it aside to use as a base. Then I cut a slit in the remaining ring and pleated it into a smaller circle and glued it onto the section I’d cut out using Helmar’s 450 Quick Dry. I also used the 450 Quick Dry to attach the crocheted flower and Liquid Scrap Dots to hold the button.

Here’s the wonderful CS sketch #186:
