Beach Memories – dt layout for Sketchabilities

For my example of sketch #100 at sketchabilities, I used the 4 Nautical themed wood cuts by Creative Embellishments and their laser cut Life Preserver chipboard piece. CE is also sponsoring this challenge and offering a $20 gc prize to one lucky winner! 😀 Here’s what I came up with:

beach memories

The compass, star and life preserver are actually navy blue, but look black in the pic. I was also inspired by the challenge at 7 Dots Studio to incorporate “memories” into the page and the challenge at scrapki-wyzwaniowo to use the colors green, yellow and blue.

Materials:

Creative Embellishments anchor, boat wheel, compass and star wood cuts
CE Life Preserver chipboard
CE flourish
7 Dots Studio 9th Wave and Wonderland paper
Drywall tape
gesso
Modeling paste
TH timpiece
TH corked vial
Jute
acrylic paint
Liquitex acrylic ink
Lindy’s Stamp Gang Moon Shadow Inks
LSG Starburst Spray
Cardboard and tissue paper from my stash

Making Faces – dt layout for SWAT drill #13

SWAT’s drill #13, our first challenge for August, is all about trendy triangles! Use this trendy geometric shape anywhere on your page or project in any way you’d like, in as many ways as you’d like, then link it up on the SWAT sidebar for your chance to win a $20 gc to 3 Scrappy Boys!

For my example, I used a triangle stencil by Prima, handcut paper triangles (I started with squares, then cut them in half diagonally) and burlap cut into triangles for a banner. Here’s what I came up with:

7 Dot Studios papers
burlap from my stash
Krylon webbing
Liquitex white acrylic ink
flexible modeling paste
4 different washi tapes
October Afternoon mini market alpha stickers
Pink Paislee Cushies alphas
Prima flowers
Faber Castell Pitt Artist Pen Big Brush markers
Prima stencils

Big Bro – layout for Paper Stories June sketch

So I’ve been trying out new things again and this time the Paper Stories June Sketch (created by Pagedrafts) inspired me to create a different kind of mixed media background for this page. The 2 photos I selected have a crisp image of Christian lounging in his ride-on car while Alex, who is pulling it with a string, and everything else around him is a blur. That inspired me to create a blurry, painted background. To achieve this affect, I used a Gelli Arts Gel Printing Plate and used the 3rd print on a sheet of textured white cardstock. Here’s what I came up with:

This is the awesome sketch I worked with to create it:

Materials:

American Crafts white cardstock
Webster’s Pages Sweet Notes paper
WP Palm Beach paper
WP Citrus Squeeze papers
Acrylic paint
Unity Stamps
Freckled Fawn wood hearts
Freckled Fawn star and arrow clips
Prima wood gears
Dusty Attic chipboard title
Tim Holtz washi tape
Darice washi tape

Adhesives:

Scotch ATG
Helmar 450 Quick Dry

Every Wall is a Door Art Journal Page for SKWAD September Inspiration Challenge

Each month, Scrapbook Kits with a Difference offers 2 challenges. One is an Inspiration challenge and the other is a lovely sketch. For the challenges, you can choose to create a scrapbook layout, card, mixed media project, altered art, etc. You are welcome to create whatever you’re inspired to make! 😀 For the Sept. Inspiration Challenge, I decided to go with an art journaling page. I saw the door, the pink wall, the bricks, and took it in another direction. I had trouble deciding which quote to use. I had narrowed it down to either “Every wall is a door” by Ralph Waldo Emerson or “Don’t spend time beating on a wall, hoping to transform it into a door” by Coco Chanel. Both had their merits, but they send different messages. Since Tracy Weinzapfel is the artist who first got me interested in starting to art journal, I put it to a vote in her facebook group. The Emerson quote won unanimously and I’m glad. I like the positive wording better than the more negative approach of the other quote. Here’s what I came up with:

Materials:

Watercolor art journal
Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft Gelatos
F-C Design Memory Craft PITT artist pens
F-C Design Memory Craft Big Brush Stampers pens
Webster’s Pages Storytellers Alphas
Stazon ink
Unity Stamp Co stamps
Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist
Prima Mask
Gesso
