The Freaks Come Out at Night – layout for Creative Embellishments

I’m up today on the Creative Embellishments blog with a Halloween layout to share using some of their fabulous laser cut chipboard and wood cuts. ๐Ÿ˜€ These are pics of my son, Alex, wearing his first โ€œscaryโ€ costume, taken a couple of years ago. He decided to go as the grim reaper and was very excited about wearing something different from his usual cutesy costumes. I altered all the pieces using acrylic paint, gesso and webbing. For my page this week, I was also inspired by a sketch from Flying Unicorn. Hereโ€™s what I came up with:

The Freaks Come Out at Night LO

CE flourish set 7
CE The Freaks Come Out at Night title piece
CE Zombie Graveyard border piece

What are Little Boys Made of? – dt layout for SWAT

Okay, so the 1st SWAT challenge for November is to create a layout incorporating a recipe or a food pic. For my take on the challenge, I kept going back to this photo of my youngest son, Christian that I’ve been wanting to scrap for quite a while now. I knew exactly which Creative embellishments chipboard pieces I wanted to use (including a special request item they sent me in my last dt package) and I knew I wanted to use Prima’s Craftsman papers with it. Soooo I couldn’t resist. To incorporate the challenge requirements, for my journaling, I added a tag that has the word from the poem, What are Little Boys Made of, so it reads, “snips and snails and puppy dog tails” and to make it more like a recipe, I added gather ingredients and blend well. I combined the SWAT challenge with the current Monday Mojo sketch at Flying Unicorn. Here’s what I came up with:

Here’s a close up of the fabulous details on these chipboard pieces. I altered them with acrylic paint, Tattered Angels glimmer mist and distress paint:

I added a couple of metal Tim Holtz embellishments to my page, so here’s a close up showing those items arranged with the chipboard:

You Light Up My World – layout for Creative Embellishments

Wow! I cannot believe it’s November already! October just flew by and the kids had a blast trick-or-treating. ๐Ÿ˜€ Anyway, a new month means a new challenge at Creative Embellishments and this month, Nicolle has selected a gorgeous inspiration photo with a theme of gratitude or thankfulness. Use the image any way it inspires you, just be sure to include a sentiment, journaling, title etc that reflects this month’s theme in honor of Thanksgiving. The challenge is open to everyone, everywhere and you can choose to create a card, tag, layout, canvas, mini-album, altered piece…anything your heart desires. ๐Ÿ˜€

For my take on the challenge, I created a layout of my kids in their costumes from last year. They were getting ready to go trick-or-treating in their grandmother’s neighborhood and got tired of posing for pics. Christian was getting distracted and kept watching other people, cars going, by…anything BUT the camera. lol Alex decided to take a breather by resting his weary arms on M&M’s heads. Nice huh? Anyway, I liked how these pics showed their camaraderie and silliness so I chose these pics to show what I’m thankful for. I adore how much they love one another and they, along with Larry, truly are the light in my life.

I combined my dt challenge with the current sketch and title prompt (lyrics from What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction) at Scrap and Music. Here’s what I came up with:

You Light up my World

Here’s a close up of the cluster at the top of my page. I altered the leaves using acrylic paint and used chalk ink to bring out the intricate design on the heart piece:

This close up shows the other 2 clusters towards the bottom of my page:
