Driven to Learn – Mixed Media Canvas for Creative Embellishments

Since my youngest 3 children attend cyber school, we were able to have 3 of the children in a single school photo. 😀 For this piece, I fussy cut to remove the background, then set the pic aside until the end of my project. I started out by adhering my first layer of chippies and coating everything with gesso. As that was drying, I lightly coated the other layered pieces with gesso as well. I then started with the darkest shade of blue mist used and sprayed the border of the canvas board. After adding the Steampunk Corner pieces, I misted again using the same color around the outside edges. I then added the next layer of pieces which included the Mini Hot Air Balloon, Steampunk Light Bulb, Steampunk Pipe Corner, Pocket Watch, and Music Borders and sprayed the whole project with a lighter shade of blue. After that dried, I went over splattered the project with white distress ink and black india ink. Next, I went over some of the edges with black ink to give the layers a little more contrast. I then tucked my photo under the layers and added the eagle piece that I misted with the lightest shade of blue. Last, I added the bare chipboard pieces. Sorry my pics aren’t very clear. Between the glossy photo and the shimmer from the mists, I kept getting a glare, but the pics are blurry without a flash. I’ll try to replace the photos once I can get some daylight. 🙂

Altered Mixed Media Dust Cover – for Creative Embellishments

I’m up on the Creative Embellishments blog with another altered project to share this week. 😀 Here’s the back story. My desktop has been acting up for quite a while and seriously needs to be replaced. It’s very old, slow, keeps freezing for long periods at a time, shutting down on its own, etc. I’ve been putting up with it and just trying to limp by until we can afford to replace it (hopefully this summer).

Then, the other day, my AMAZING bestie sent me the most INCREDIBLE surprise! She sent me a metallic purple notebook pc! See my facebook page if you REALLY must know which one specifically. lol It arrived wrapped in a white dust cover, which I decided to hold onto. I figure I can put it in there when not in use. Since I’m hanging onto it and though I love the look of altered laptops, I just can’t make myself alter this precious gift I received, I decided to alter the dust cover instead. 😀 Here’s how it turned out:

Close up of the dress forms. I altered them using Silks paints using our favorite colors and painting the opposite dressform’s supporting stem the other person’s favorite color to symbolize how we support one another. The paints are actually very shimmer and have gorgeous shine to them, but due to the time of day I took the pictures, you can’t really see the metallic shimmer:

Dare to Imagine…Just Dream – Canvas for Creative Embellishments

Hi, all! It’s Thursday again, so I’m up on the Creative Embellishments blog. 😀 This week I decided to go with an altered canvas using a ton of different CE laser cut chipboard goodies. I wanted to make a piece with a theme that went with the idea…If you can dream it, you can build it. A piece about the imagination, creativity and innovation, so to start I picked panel pieces that reminded me of things in technology, science and circuitry to tie in the circuit board section I wanted to incorporate. I then selected steampunk chippies of inventions that are ground breaking in their own time. I frequently think about the brilliant minds behind our everyday technology that we all now take for granted. Inventions that I’m sure when originally thought of, were considered out of reach, far-fetched or even crazy. 😀 I also added wings to symbolize ideas taking flight, hearts soaring following the realization of dreams…following your heart.

Here’s what I came up with:

Though the hands on the clock are missing in this pic, I did remember to add them after I’d taken the photo. The hands are green so they stand out from the clock face and they point to my current age:

What are Little Boys Made of? – dt layout for SWAT

Okay, so the 1st SWAT challenge for November is to create a layout incorporating a recipe or a food pic. For my take on the challenge, I kept going back to this photo of my youngest son, Christian that I’ve been wanting to scrap for quite a while now. I knew exactly which Creative embellishments chipboard pieces I wanted to use (including a special request item they sent me in my last dt package) and I knew I wanted to use Prima’s Craftsman papers with it. Soooo I couldn’t resist. To incorporate the challenge requirements, for my journaling, I added a tag that has the word from the poem, What are Little Boys Made of, so it reads, “snips and snails and puppy dog tails” and to make it more like a recipe, I added gather ingredients and blend well. I combined the SWAT challenge with the current Monday Mojo sketch at Flying Unicorn. Here’s what I came up with:

Here’s a close up of the fabulous details on these chipboard pieces. I altered them with acrylic paint, Tattered Angels glimmer mist and distress paint:

I added a couple of metal Tim Holtz embellishments to my page, so here’s a close up showing those items arranged with the chipboard:
