Summer Fun – dt layout for Creative Embellishments

I’ll be up on the Creative Embellishments blog each Thursday with a project to share using their fabulous laser cut chipboard and woodsies products. 😀 For my first Thurs. project I created a layout of my son, Alex, on the beach searching for the perfect conch shell. It was also inspired by the Scrap & Music challenge (sketch + U2’s I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For). Though the kids all brought home a ton of shells they’d found, he never did find a sizeable conch. In fact, I think the largest he found was the size of a dime! lol

I like keeping things simple, so to alter my chippies, I used a combination of gesso, black and copper acrylic paint, and white acrylic paint to highlight.

Here’s what I came up with:

Materials:

CE nautical collection chippies
CE flourish set #2
CE social hash tag chippies
7 Dots Studio paper and alphaa stickers
acrylic paint
cheesecloth
raffia
Tim Holtz word band, corked bottle, timepiece and spinner
TCW and TH masks
Liquitex acrylic ink
Prima junkyard finding
burlap
natural shells and sand

TFL! Close ups/details shots are available on the CE blog. Would love to see you there! Comments are always appreciated. 😀

Reflect – dt layout for Creative Embellishments

I FINALLY get to share my BIG NEWS!!! My incredibly talented bestie and her fabulous hubby have started their own laser cut chipboard company and I get to design for them!!! Creative Embellishments is having a GRAND OPENING SALE and GIVEAWAY, so be sure to check out the details on my next blog post. Links to the store and blog will be provided 😀

To start off, this is the super stuffed, simply AMAZING DT KIT they sent me to work with:

These chippies are wonderfully detailed, high quality and so much fun to alter! Aren’t they FANTASTIC?!!

Creative Embellishments will also be offering fun and inspiring monthly challenges and facebook giveaways, which gives you lots of opportunities WIN some of these gorgeous chippies to create with as well! 😀

Entering the September challenge is easy! Simply create a layout, canvas, mini album, card, tag or altered piece (really anything you want!) using a nautical theme, which is very trendy right now. You do NOT need to use CE products or any chipboard for that matter in order to enter this challenge and it’s open to everyone, everywhere! 😀 Entries must be received by 11:59 pm on the last day of the month in order to qualify for the $20 store gift card prize.

This is my example for the challenge with some close ups and my first creation for CE. I was also inspired by the gorgeous sketch by Alda Stevens for the Flying Unicorn Forum’s Monday Mojo Sketch Challenge:

Materials:

CE Nautical Collection chippies
7 Dots Studio 9th Wave paper
Prima and TCW stencils
acrylic paint
Pitt big brush artist pens
gesso
Modeling paste
Burlap
Cheesecloth
dry wall tape
clear plastic cabochons
Prima Junkyard findings snaps and light bulb
TH key
Distress Paints
Pink Paislee chushies alphas

TFL! Please visit the Creative Embellishments Blog to view Nicolle’s stunning example for the challenge too! 😀

Scrapbook Kits with a Difference August Challenges

The August SKWAD (Scrapbook Kits with a Difference) challenges are now live on the blog! Stop by and check out the dt’s fabulous examples and play along for your chance to win a fun scrappy prize! 😀

First up, we have the August Sketch Challenge. For my example, I went with Prima’s Meadow Lark collection. Everything used on my page is by Prima except the bit of trim from my stash (not sure who it is by). Here’s what I came up with:

This is the fantastic sketch by Annette Gearside:

The second challenge is the Inspiration Challenge. The Inspiration Challenge isn’t just about the colours – you may find yourself inspired by the image design, pictures or themes. You are also able to create an altered project, card, mini-album or art journal page for this challenge! 😀

Here’s what I came up with for the challenge (I was inspired by the colors and added white since it’s widely featured in the images. I also added scrolled chipboard pieces inspired by the chair and fence at the top of the inspiration image):

The papers and tag are Spring Jubilee by Pink Paislee, the cushies alphas are also by PP. The flowers are by Prima and the painted chippies are by Dusty Attic. I used a Martha Stewart round the page punch for the border.

Here’s the gorgeous inspiration pic for August:

To enter the SKWAD challenges, please email a photo of your completed layouts to scrapbookkitswithjules@gmail.com by midnight, August 31, 2012 Australian EST. If you’re not sure how to calculate the time difference, CLICK HERE for the current time in the correct time zone. I hope you play along!
