It Takes a Real Man to be a Dad – Creative Embellishments May challenge

For the Creative Embellishments May Challenge, there’s an inspiration photo to combine with a sketch created by Nicolle. Like several others, I was inspired by the flowers in the inspo image, so I incorporated flowers on what at first appears to be quite a masculine page. I also loved the visual texture of the mountains, so I selected papers that mimicked them to me (the blue papers). From the sketch I carried over the circle elements from the background and incorporated the splatters, circular rope frame and matted my photo with a panel (the steampunk gear panel). I replaced the element on the lower right with elements from the baby, baby, baby wood veneer set. For this layout, I decided to leave my pieces bare to go with the earthy feel of the background. Here’s how my example turned out:

Just Me and My Shadow – dt layout for Creative Embellishments

After a 2 week break, I’m up on the Creative Embellishments blog with a layout to share! 😀 For my page I went with this photo I’ve been saving from our trip to the beach. Our youngest son, Christian, loves to imitate everyone and his favorite subject to mimic is, of course, his father. 😀

I combined the Scrap Friends sketch with the inspiration board at Scrap Around the World along with some FABULOUS Creative Embellishments chipboard and Wood Veneers. Here’s what I came up with:

Just Me and My Shadow

Materials:

Creative Embellishments Together Frame Set
CE Time Flies Frame Set
CE Funky Alphas
CE Wood Veneer gears
American Crafts cardstock
Lindy’s Stamp Gang Moon Shadow and Starburst color shots
The Crafter’s Workshop stencils
Liquitex blended fibers, modeling paste and coarse pumice
twine
dry wall tape
sequins
washer
tissue paper
October Afternoon mini market alpha stickers
Shimmerz Texturez

Scrap Around the World Mood Board:

Jan Mood Board 2014

I was inspired by the textures on the tea cups, so I included dimensional stenciling with modeling paste and blended fibers. I was also inspired by the beach image, the colors, texture from the sand, so I incorporated glass bead and coarse pumice with the stenciling and texture work. I added a touch of metal and gears for the bike. I left the wood and chipboard bare for the natural colors from the baskets on the bicycles and the table and chairs. I included glass cabochons and twine inspired by the image on the bottom right.

Here’s the fabulous Scrap Friends sketch I worked with:
