Best Friends – Canvas

Creative embellishments chippies are so much fun to work with and so versatile! For this canvas, I simply applied a light gesso, then heat embossed to give them a wonderfully enameled look that makes the stand out from my project. As it happens, CE’s founder and head designer, Nicolle, is my best friend. She’s a true inspiration. Hardworking (did you know CE is family owned and operated? They do everything from design the pieces, cut them, weed them, package and sticker them, and ship them!), creative, uplifting, supportive, and more! I cannot imagine my life without her. I’m so blessed to have met her. ❀ So, my project is dedicated to my bestie, Nicolle. πŸ˜€

I started out by painting the canvas board with black gesso, then used white gesso and stencils for the corner work. I then used modeling paste with 2 other stencils for the other details (though much of it was covered by the flowers). Once that dried, I used Lindy’s Stamp Gang color shots on the white gesso . I used a heat gun to dry the links between colors. Next, I adhered the clock pieces in 2 different sizes, on either end of my project. I then clustered and layered the flowers, skeleton leaves, and leaves across my project. Last, I added the sentiment, heart piece, and title piece, which I cut in half to better fit my project. That’s another thing I love about all the CE pieces. Though thick and durable to withstand all your favorite wet mediums, they’re also easy to cut to suit your needs. πŸ˜€ Here’s how my project turned out:

For my example, I chose a photo of 2 of my children taken on the day I pulled them out of the local brick and mortar school after enrolling them into an online cyber school. This was done primarily to improve the quality of their education as well as removing them from an undesirable environment at school. My take on the challenge reflects my dream for a brighter future for my children. πŸ˜€ I was also inspired by the Monday Mojo sketch at Flying Unicorn. Here’s what I came up with (the background is actually a deep purple, but photographed as blue):

A Very Merry Christmas – dt layout for Creative Embellishments

Happy Thursday, everyone! I’m up on the Creative Embellishments blog with another Christmas layout to share using some FABULOUS Creative Embellishments Chipboard pieces! I can’t get enough of the wonderfully intricate snowflakes and this time I went with quite a bit of holly and berries too. πŸ˜€ I’ve been loving all the gorgeous CE frames too! This week, I used pics of my son, Matthew, tearing into his pressies. I simply adore his sweet, easy going smile. πŸ˜€ For my layout, I was also inspired by a sketch over at Purple Pumpkin, so be sure to check them out as well. πŸ˜€ For my take on the Purple Pumpkin sketch I rotated the sketch 90 degrees counterclockwise. Here’s what I created:

I created my page using photos of Madison on a boat themed ride at the York Fair 2 years ago. I figured it would kind of go with the transporation theme with csi case file #87. Working with given palette, I selected arrows, wave shapes, stitching and mist from the evidence column and had my journaling wander across the page for the testimony portion.

This is the inspiration image and palette for case file #87:

To further embellish my page, I incorporated the Flying Unicorn Welcome Back challenge criteria which was a sort of check list of what to include on your page:

Lastly, I always love to incorporate a good sketch, so I decided to play along with the Stuck on U Sketches sketch challenge. Here’s the fabulous sketch I worked with:
