"Smash" Book – My Version WP July challenge

I really like K&Co’s Smash books and accessories and think they’re a wonderful idea. They’re obviously not the only ones to have this idea, nor are they the first, but they did a great job with designing their line and incorporating trendy and fun accessories to go with the books. The concept is actually as old as scrapbooking IMO, but they’ve introduced it with a modern edge and made it so simple/easy that anyone feels they can use it and end up with something fun and creative.

Well, Jaz challenged the Inspire Me members this month to create any project (layout, card, tag, altered item) that uses a majority of WP products and features their bloomers and papers. I thought about this for a couple of days, initially intending to alter a box for this challenge, but then after seeing the Smash book again recently, decided to create my own version of the Smash book using WP papers! How gorgeous would that be? Though I’d wanted to go digi/hybrid with this, I can’t get my printer to produce the print quality that would be necessary for this type of project. So if you want to make on of these yourself, I do recommend going with the WP digi files and going hybrid. It would be a lot more cost effective and the pages would be completely customizable.

Working with that limitation, I still managed to produce a book that I really like. 😀 Lucky for me, I have horrible hoarding tendencies where Webster’s Pages is concerned, so I easily rustled up enough of their 12×12 papers to create the following album:

Here’s the pocket I created inside the cover to store smaller pockets that I can adhere to the pages:

Here are a few of the little pockets I made that can added to the pages to hold memorabilia:

Here are some inside pages where I created a 2 page spread:

Here are a few where I had an “A side” matched with a coordinating “B side”:

I also have a few spreads that pair 2 “B sides”…here’s one example:

Can’t I get just 1 smile? Scrapbook layout

Christian is nearly a year old and I have hundreds of photos of my little guy. Unfortunately, the vast majority of them look just like these. For months, if he saw the camera, he would just stare at me like I had 2 heads, look really confused, or pissed! Now that he’s 11 months old and walking, he runs towards me and tries to grab the camera, so I get blurry action shots or images of his face up close and waaaay too personal. lol

For this layout, I combined 2 challenges. I used sketch#2 for the SYAO contest on Paper Secrets (due May 28th) and combined it with challenge#3 on Sketches4All, which requires 5+ patterned papers, 5+ alphas and exactly 5 buttons (due May 21st). Here’s what I came up with:

Materials:

Pink Paislee Butterfly Garden papers
American crafts cardstock
MME chipboard
Maya Road chipboard swirls (I took a piece apart to create a question mark)

Webster’s Pages Silhouette
WP Vintage Inspired Netting (original)
WP Storytellers Alphas
October Afternoon Mini Market stickers
