Card for the Bo Bunny Sketch Challenge

This is my take on the current Bo Bunny Card Sketch (they have one each month). I used last year’s Gabrielle collection pp, diecut stickers and layered stickers. I added color to a standard white doily with some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist and here’s what I came up with:

I mainly used Helmar Premium Craft Glue, but the sentiment piece is popped up with Zap Dots (foam squares) and the seam binding bow was adhered using 450 Quick Dry.

Here’s the fab Bo Bunny Sketch I was inspired by:

Heart Canvas – Inspired by Tracy and Helmar USA

Just about every Monday night Helmar hosts a live Ustream class. Usually Tracy Weinzapfel hosts the show, but sometimes Jess (Kinderstamp) hosts as well. This last Monday Tracy shared a page with us from her art journal which inspired her to create a canvas piece and the class showed how to recreate it. CLICK HERE for the recorded show.

I’m always inspired by the Helmar classes and like to create a project based on the class, but usually add my own spin on things. Here’s my take on her canvas piece from the class:

Materials:

8″x10″ canvas board
acrylic paint
charcoal pencil
gesso
India Ink
lace trim from my stash
Prima flowers
Liquid Pearls

Adhesives:

Helmar 450 Quick Dry

Helmar 2 step crackle

I stuck pretty close to Tracy’s inspiring piece…what I changed was minimal. I chose a quote that spoke to me personally rather than using her words and did not add any rubons. Her version is handwritten using india ink and has the loops filled in with white acrylic ink. I wanted all of the words to really pop on mine rather than a single keyword, so I painted the words with white gesso (you could use white paint) and shadowed them using black india ink, intentionally capitalizing the first letter on a few chosen words and the enter word “heart.” The quote is from Helen Keller.

Valentine’s card

This card is based on a sketch by Card Patterns on the Sketches in Thyme blog for their challenge this week. I combined it with challenge 85 on Scrap Whispers, which is to create a layout or card using red and black, include a heart and add glitter. For this card, I used Webster’s Pages’ Hollywood Vogue and Garden Gala Papers as well as their trim. The scrolls are from Maya Road, but I cut them to the shape and size I wanted, then added stickles for the glitter. The brads are by Kaiser. I used a Martha Stewart edge punch for the scallop towards the bottom of the card and distress ink on all the paper edges. The hearts were hand cut.
