March Eight Layout for Sketchy Thursdays

I was so sad to hear that this is Sketchy Thursdays last sketch. 😦 When I first started scrapping online about a year and a half ago, Sketchy Thursdays was one of the first sketch sites I found. For a person who was very nervous about posting their work online, ST was a wonderful start. The owners and DT have always been so warm and encouraging and I’ve always appreciated their lovely comments. Upon hearing this, I knew I had to play along with their final sketch even though I’ve barely gotten any sleep in the last couple of days (stomach bug that started w/the baby, passed to me and now 2 of the other kids). Though it’s not my best work, I am glad I got to participate in their last challenge.

This pic is from Matthew’s 3rd birthday and was taken on a slide at Chuckie Cheese. The papers are older, Sassafras papers from Me Likey and Sweet Marmalade.

Thank you to everyone who helped spread the word about the 20% off sale at Stay True To God. I greatly appreciate it! To select the random winner, I numbered the comments in the order they were left and came up with 14 viable entries. I then used the True Random Number Generator at Random.org to select the winner. Here’s the result:

So the winning comment was:

Simple Moments – dt layout for LCTS and an announcement

For my take on the Let’s Capture These Sketches #115 by Natalie Roy, I went with some gorgeous Bo Bunny Welcome Home papers, sticker and chipboard. The “misletoe” is by Prima and the flowered trim is by May Arts (the blue lace w/sequins is from my stash). The fabulous corner flourish is by Dusty Attic and can be found in the STTG store HERE. I painted the DA chipboard piece with white acrylic paint and misted with Tattered Angels glimmer mist in Frost and a bit of Olive Vine. Here’s what I came up with:

Oh, The Places You’ll Go – Creative Scrappers Sketch #189

As soon as I saw sketch #189 at Creative Scrappers, I was drawn to the circle elements and knew I wanted to create a layout that incorporated some of the fab Dusty Attic Cog pieces I just got from Tracy at Stay True to God (a wonderful online scrap store that offers an amazing selection of DA pieces). To give them an aged appearance, I first inked the chipboard, then heat embossed them with Adirondack embossing powder and misted with Tattered Angels Coffee Shop Glimmer Mist and here’s what I came up with for the sketch:

This is a close up of the cluster of cogs:

You’ll notice that I added 2 additional circles to the ones that were originally on the sketch. As it happens, the sheet of pp from the Tim Holtz Crowded Attic Paper Stash that I selected (the map) could be cropped to have South Korea in the upper left and Washington DC in the upper right. My parents are from South Korea and immigrated to America. They settled in Maryland, less than an hour’s drive north of DC, which is where I grew up. I didn’t move to PA until I was 23. So I thought it would be fun to highlight those 2 parts of the map. 😀

Materials:

Tim Holtz Idea-ology Kraftresist paper
Tim Holtz Idea-ology Crowded Attic pp
Dusty Attic chipboard
Pink Paislee Wood Alphas
October Afternoon Minimarket alphas
Distress Ink
Tattered Angels Coffee Shop Glimmer Mist
Adirondack Embossing Powder
Black India Ink

Adhesives:

Helmar Quick Fix Adhesive Runner
Helmar 450 Quick Dry
Helmar Premium Craft Glue
Helmar Zap Dots
