Just about every Monday night Helmar hosts a live Ustream class. Usually Tracy Weinzapfel hosts the show, but sometimes Jess (Kinderstamp) hosts as well. This last Monday Tracy shared a page with us from her art journal which inspired her to create a canvas piece and the class showed how to recreate it. CLICK HERE for the recorded show.

I’m always inspired by the Helmar classes and like to create a project based on the class, but usually add my own spin on things. Here’s my take on her canvas piece from the class:

Materials:

8″x10″ canvas board
acrylic paint
charcoal pencil
gesso
India Ink
lace trim from my stash
Prima flowers
Liquid Pearls

I stuck pretty close to Tracy’s inspiring piece…what I changed was minimal. I chose a quote that spoke to me personally rather than using her words and did not add any rubons. Her version is handwritten using india ink and has the loops filled in with white acrylic ink. I wanted all of the words to really pop on mine rather than a single keyword, so I painted the words with white gesso (you could use white paint) and shadowed them using black india ink, intentionally capitalizing the first letter on a few chosen words and the enter word “heart.” The quote is from Helen Keller.

This week I got to work with the Delightful line by Little Yellow Bicycle for my dt work on fireflyexpressions.com. The first project I made was their project sheet that comes with a great assortment of diecut pieces, sentiments, a hidden tag and decorative paper strips. I added a bit of the ribbon from the Delightful line too. Everything shown is included in the kit except for the handmade flower and the ribbon which is sold separately.

The next item I made was a little bag to put it in for gift giving. All it took was a single 12×12 sheet of cardstock, matching trim, diecuts from the project sheet and an embossed cardstock sticker frame that I inked with Tim Holtz alcohol ink to match the trim and another handmade flower and it was ready to go! Love how well everything in this LYB line goes together. 😀 See how my handmade flower stays beautifully dimensional and stands w/o support? That’s all thanks to Helmar’s Liquid Scrap Dots. I don’t know how I ever crafted w/o it!

Nikki Sivils Max and Mollie card for Paper Secrets Hop

The Max and Mollie line by Nikki Sivils was so much fun to work with, I just had to make at least one card before putting it away. I decided to use it for one of the sketches on the Paper Secrets Twisted Card Hop. Here’s what I came up with for the challenge posted on Nicolle’s blog for the event:

Life List Journal – Inspired by Tracy Weinzapfel

This is another fun project inspired by Tracy Weinzapfel, Pres of Helmar USA. Each week LIVE via Ustream, Tracy or Jess (Kinderstampo), presents a project and shows how it was created. Last Monday, Tracy challenged us to create a Life List Journal. It could be created any way we wanted, but here’s the the post on her blog where you can find the recorded video for hers: Tracy’s Blog

Inspired by her creation, but not imitating it, I came up with this:

I altered the cover of a binder so that I would not be afraid to play along with this challenge. I’m going to be using watercolor paper and adding pages as I go without fear that I’ll accidentally destroy the previous pages as I create! LOL

For this cover, I went with a sheet of Teresa Collins Notations paper. Cut to size, cut the detail for the top and fussy cut that fab semi-circle design, then adhered those two pieces with Helmar acid free glue. Inspired by Tracy’s multi-medium, artsy approach, I used watercolor pencils for the first time to color in the design…which was soooo much fun! 😀 I will def have to do THAT again! The quote was added using a Unity Stamp and Staz-On ink. Tracy also inspired me to *gasp* use my own handwriting, a fountain pen (you know, the kind w/a NIB?!!!) and ink. When I think about life and growth, I think green, so I went with a lovely green acrylic ink by Liquitex. TFL!
