Two Cards and a Project for Paper Secrets’ November Challenges

I’m thrilled to announce that Kristi has invited me for a second term on the Paper Secrets DT! 😀 I loved my time serving on the team in May-July 2011, so I’m super excited to be back! There are 5 fantastic challenges for November (though this post will only show my takes on 3 of the challenge), so I hope you can join in on the fun!

First up, we have a great card sketch with a twist, which is being hosted by Nicolle Kramer. The twist is to use glitter and twine. Please visit the challenge post on the forum for the sketch to use and to see the other dt member’s cards. Here’s my take on it:

Next there’s a paper piecing challenge being hosted by Kimmy. For further details and inspiration from the dt, see the post marked November Technique Challenge. Here’s my take on it:

This month’s manufacturer challenge is My Mind’s Eye, which is being hosted by Joyce. While chatting with the other ladies on the forum, I realized that our family does not have a physical phone number, address, email addy book, so if something should ever happen to my computer or our cell phones (like Larry frying his by dropping it in the lake while fishing as he did last year), we’d lose all our contacts. So I figured now would be a great time for me to get on that project I’ve been planning for months. lol I’ve had this Maya Road 5 tabbed sheer album for quite a while now. I’ve held onto it with the intention of using it for this purpose, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity. 🙂

Since I’ve been playing around quite a bit with some of the different Helmar products recently, I decided to give it a go on this one. It’s actually based on an idea I had for a project that’s going to be on my next post. I bought a jar of the textured effects and had wanted to take it for a test spin. I mixed a bit of it with some iridenscent medium and used it on a layout that will be shown on the next blog post. It worked beautifully and exactly the way I’d wanted, so for MR sheer album, I thought it might be cool to blend with perfect pearls so I can accentuate the outer edges of the pages, especially the tabs which I wasn’t planning on covering with paper. Here’s how it turned out:

This is one of the inside spreads so you can see the MME ledger paper I inserted between the dividers for us to write contact info onto:

It came out exactly as expected. I love the added texture and interest the textured effects creates with a bit of perfect pearls blended in. You can get a similar affect by using other powdered pigment products. When mixing, keep in mind that it will dry to a darker shade than it is while wet since the textured affects starts out as a thicker, creamy white medium and dries clear.Since I had some left over, I was also able to add details to the chipboard flower and leaves. I painted dimensional veins to the leaves, enhanced the colors on the center of the flower and outlined the edges too. I love the added subtle shimmer and fab texture!
